Many will recognise this farmhouse and its stables from Matthew Evans' Gourmet Farmer series on SBS TV. Puggle Farm can sleep six and Puggle Farm Stables an extra two. No longer a working farm, it’s a relaxing base for touring the Huon Valley, under an hour from Hobart. Hang out in our sunroom, or snuggle in front of the fire on a winter’s evening. Puggle Farm has surprising privacy and solitude, yet just a couple of minutes’ drive into the charming village of Cygnet.

The space
On a birthday weekend in Cygnet in 2017 we fell in love with Puggle Farm, which had just come onto the market (quite a birthday as it turned out). We hope you love it too.

The farmhouse has a large kitchen, living room and bathroom downstairs, plus the sunroom with valley, stream and forest views. The three bedrooms are upstairs, with two queen-size beds and a double. The master bedroom is large and airy, while the third bedroom is a little squeezy for a couple - okay for a night or two. The house is set in a garden and five acres of land.

At the farm there are books, magazines, TV, board games and beach towels, and Randall's Bay Beach is 15 minutes' drive away.

Bedding
We aim to provide you with a really comfortable night's sleep. Our linen is high quality, there's plentiful extra bedding for hot sleepers and cold sleepers, and a good choice of pillows – high, low, soft and firm.

Provisions
For your first breakfast, we provide beautiful bread from the Cygnet Woodfired Bakehouse (or Summer Kitchen on Mondays and Tuesdays), homemade marmalade and jam, eggs from our 'girls', oranges to juice, muesli, and real coffee, tea and milk. There's a juicer, coffee machine, microwave, electric oven and gas stove, as well as the Rayburn. You'll find rice, pasta, flour and essential cooking supplies (such as olive oil, s&p). Please collect eggs from our chooks and pick something from the veggie patch, too.

Laundry
There's a washing machine in the bathroom, and an outside line and pegs. Please be mindful we are on limited tank water. (There's an iron too, but you're on holiday, right?)

Puggle Farm Stables
In the garden, twenty metres from the farmhouse (sleeps 6), the old stable and milking shed has been converted to studio accommodation (sleeps 2). With the Stables as well, Puggle Farm can sleep 8. Or perhaps you have family members or a couple in your group who would like to feel even closer to nature sleeping out in this unique studio?

The Stables is separately listed on this site. It has its own shower, but use the farmhouse loo. If you would like to book the Stables too, message Mel when you book the farmhouse.

Guest access
You're on your own, so absolutely make yourself at home. Feel free to wander about the garden and paddocks, explore by the stream, say hello to the alpacas who live opposite Puggle Farm, and collect eggs from our four chooks. We hear that many guests make plans for excursions, but when the time comes, they are reluctant to leave the peacefulness of Puggle Farm, so they stay home instead.

Other things to note
Please keep our gates shut. We are trying to keep the wallabies out of the garden, as they eat our plants.

No smoking either in or out.

Also, be aware we are on rain water (it's delicious but of course limited in summer) and septic tank.

Sorry, we gather that drones are unpopular with others who live in the valley.

Cygnet, Tasmania, Australia

The Huon Valley offers many fun activities. You could:

Wander into Cygnet and visit a cafe for lunch. And the Cygnet market is on the first and third Sunday mornings of the month. There are electric bikes to hire, a pottery, a few boutique shops and galleries to visit.

Drive along the Cygnet Coast Road - there are delights such as a blueberry farm and vineyards.

Near Geeveston, walk in the Hartz Mountains where there are stunning walks short and long. A little nearer are Snug Falls, or take a stroll down to the Cygnet Yacht Club at the southern end of Cygnet where there's a boardwalk and bobbing boats looking picturesque. Another walk is Sugar Loaf, from Randalls Bay beach, which gives good views of the Huon River.

Visit Matthew Evans' and Sadie Chrestman's Fat Pig Farm at Glaziers Bay (10 minutes drive from Puggle Farm) for the Friday Feast (definitely book first) or attend a cookery course there. Check out their website for other events coming up too.

Sarah Clare, MasterChef finalist, has opened a new restaurant in Cygnet, too It’s called Ilha, is BYO and serves tapas. And now there's The Cannery, with slow-dough pizzas.

Get to know our Tasmanian birds (so many!), and the native marsupials that come out at dusk. A look into the paddock and you will see many. We also have the endangered eastern quolls - two are living under the house and come out at dusk.

One happy weekend down in the beautiful Huon Valley, David and I fell in love with Puggle Farm, the property we now host on the outskirts of Cygnet. It provides a wonderful, relaxing getaway and we hope you love it too.
