The Farm Shack is a small brick outbuilding on our 16 acre historic property. Set close to the main house but separate from it. The Farm Shack has its own entry which you can drive close to. This is a great alternative to camping (only much more comfortable) for a couple or two friends. There is one queen bed. There are fold back glass doors which open to a private grassed area where you can relax under the almond tree around your camp fire. Also lock up bike storage & workshop for Maydena Park.
Your grassed campfire area is slightly raised and is bordered on one side by a remnant convict brick wall, you look out to the orchard and sheep paddock beyond.
The morning sun shines on this private area and comes in through the glass doors of the Shack. Enjoy the farm yard view snuggled in bed with a cuppa or pull the curtains for privacy.
We have 16 acres with access to more on the adjacent back property for you to enjoy when you aren't out exploring the region. We have 3 dams/ponds. It is not suitable for pets as the Farm Shack is not fenced off from the rest of the property.
BATHROOM: You DO NOT have your own bathroom. You will share our (your hosts) bathroom and toilet in the main house which is very close. We are on town water and it is safe to drink. Your bath towels, face washers and soap are supplied.
KITCHEN FACILITIES: There is no kitchen access but you will have your own outdoor covered food preparation area with a gas BBQ. We will do your washing up! Just deliver them to our back door in the container provided and you will get them back sparkling clean. There is NO FRIDGE but there is a large Esky (cold box) at your food preparation area. You will need to keep it supplied with ice. You are camping remember :-)
COOKING: There is a gas BBQ for your sole use and we also supply your cooking equipment, and cutlery, plates, cups etc.
COFFEE/TEA: You have an electric kettle and a toaster with coffee, tea and sugar in the Farm Shack right next to your bed.
FOOD: You will have a supply of milk, coffee, sugar, tea and drinking chocolate, salt and pepper waiting for you. You will need to provide your own milk once you have finished your welcome litre. If you would like a breakfast pack for your first morning let me know when you book. A breakfast pack #1 costs $10 for 2 people: 1/2 loaf of bread, butter, spreads such as jam, vegemite, peanut butter, cereal, eggs from our ducks or chooks and fruit in season. Breakfast pack #2 - add another $10 for sausages, bacon, tomato and mushrooms.
The Farm Shack is only 4 minutes drive from the small town of New Norfolk where you can buy supplies for your stay as well as ice. There is a large Woolworths grocery store, an independent butcher in High Street, 3 pubs/hotels, 2 drive through liquor outlets, many cafes, bakeries, and take away shops including McDonalds and Subway.
CLOTHES WASHING: I (your host) am happy to do a bag wash for you for $10/load washed and dried. I wash whatever you have put in the bag together. I don't sort.
TECHNOLOGY: There is no TV or WFI. There are electric points for charging your devices in the Farm Shack. If you need WFI access from time to time to check something you are welcome to use it in the main house. Access is free.
Interaction with guests
WE love our region here in the Derwent Valley and love to help guests get the best from their stay so we are happy to offer you suggestions on what to see and do and also give you directions and our recommendations. The Maydena Bike Park is not that far and we have lock up bike storage in our workshop close to The Farm Shack which you are welcome to use. You can also use our air compressor free of charge.
We live in the main house and also run a separate bed and breakfast business on the property. You will come to the main house via a back door to use the toilet and bathroom 24/7 with your own key access. You will also see us moving around the property doing maintenance, gardening and caring for the animals and living our life. We are happy to help but we also want to give you your privacy so will not intrude unless asked.
Other things to note
If you do not like animals or their presence makes you nervous this is not the place for you. We have a small dog, a cat, sheep, chooks, ducks, geese and a donkey. Oh and a rabbit called Rascal. These animals can be VERY noisy (not the rabbit) especially at meal times morning and afternoon. They can make a lot of noise. Often all at the same time. Sometimes right at the door of the Farm Shack. If this will upset or annoy you, this is not the place for you.
The accommodation is for 2 people only. No extra people are possible.
- You are welcome to smke on the property but not inside
- Sharing a bathroom requires great manners. Please wipe down surfaces after use and think about how to leave the area nice for the next person
- The Farm Shack will not be serviced daily. It will be cleaned after your stay.
G'day, Garth and I moved to Tasmania from Brisbane Queensland at the end of 2013 after falling in love with Stanton. Here we have found a more satisfying and sustainable way to live and we love sharing it with our wonderful guests.
