A traditional, 200 year old cottage with some modern comforts and many original features. Located on a quiet back road, the cottage is set in private land with a sweeping meadow at the front and many mature trees to all sides. It is about 6 minutes drive from the nearest town (Glenties) and suits those looking for complete tranquility. Good shops, pubs, places to eat in Glenties and nearby Ardara. Stunning mountain and coastal scenery in every direction.

The space

Ideally located along the Wild Atlantic Way, and within easy reach of Sliabh Liag (Europe's highest sea cliffs), Lough Anna Cottage is available to let ideally for four people, though an additional bed can be provided to bring the number up to five. There is a B&B option for up to three people from September onwards. See 'Rates' below.

Situated 2km from Glenties, which is east of Ardara and north of Donegal town, this traditional stone-built cottage is about 200 years old. It is in good condition with reasonably spacious and comfortable rooms. It has one medium sized bedroom with a double bed and one bedroom with two bunk beds (and one occasional, additional bed), a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room with a working fireplace. There is the possibility of an additional bed which can be made up in the room with the bunk beds.

The cottage is fully furnished and the kitchen has a large and good quality gas/electric cooker, table, chairs etc. There is also a washing machine, but no television and no tumble dryer. Washing is generally dried on the line outside or on an inside dryer rack in bad weather. Both wood and turf are supplied for use in the living room fire place. The house also has a good oil-fired central heating system. All household linen and cleaning is included in the price. It is set in about an acre and a half of woodland and meadows with its own private drive and parking space. There is one friendly cat, who lives both inside and out. If people prefer, it is possible to rent the house without the cat.

Rates:
Single night occupancy of the entire cottage is possible but a higher rate is charged: €100.

A B&B option is available for up to three people from the beginning of September : €35 for a single person, €60 for two, €85 for three. An evening meal can be provided on arrival by request - €12 -€15 per person.

Other things to note

Please read the house description - all the way through - and make sure that this is what you are looking for. I recently had a review which said that the house was too isolated and so would insist that it is your responsibility to inform yourself and ask me as many questions as you like, before booking. I have made everything as clear as possible.

We just loved our stay in this gorgeous quaint little cottage. A beautiful, quiet little spot next to bubbling brooks. Our host Allaye met us there with the fire stoked and had even baked us a delicious apple pie!! . So quiet and tranquil. Perfect for a night in by the fire with a glass of red. Lots to read here too. Thanks for sharing this lovely place with us.

Beautiful cottage in an incredible part of Ireland! My family and I stayed for 2 nights and we were like pigs in mud. Fresh scones on arrival, fire roaring, hot shower, cosy beds and all the books we could want. All the little details and odds and ends in the house enhanced our experience. And Maori the cat was a sweetheart! Such a beautiful cottage. Swell location to explore Donegal from. Can't recommend this place enough!

Thankyou so much Allaye. It was a delight to stay at Allaye's cottage for two nights during our road trip. Everything was extremely comfortable and Allaye was a very warm and welcoming host. It was a fantastic, relaxing time during our busy road trip! Luke, Mel, Anu

This cottage is in a beautiful setting. Isolated but directions are easy to follow. Allaye's local knowledge provided us with access to spectacular scenic Ireland at its best. The cottage was cosy, warm and comfortable, however the bathroom water pressure makes showering a challenge. Be aware that all guests need to like cats as there is a cat to keep you company that has full run of the cottage. A true Irish stone cottage with lots of character.

Lovely home in a stunning area. Allaye provided terrific local's advice on where to visit. And the home-baked bread was very welcome.

Lough Anna Cottage was a real gem! The cottage is rustic and charming, and located in a very quiet forest area overlooking a small meadow. There are a number of mountain and forest walks nearby. Although it is tucked away, it was very easy to get to thanks to Allaye's detailed instructions. Allaye was a wonderful host and we enjoyed chatting with her. She made us a very nice Irish breakfast and we got to try her home-baked scones and bread. Our stay here was a special part of our trip to Ireland, and we would love to come back for longer next time.
