Raðljóst, Icelandic for a 'place where there is just enough light to see'. This rustic, peaceful retreat is set back from the road surrounded by the forest.
Relax, unwind, listen to birds and watch the trees sway in the breeze. Gaze at the brilliant night sky, put a log on the fire. Close to Algonquin and 10 minutes to restaurants and cafes. Twenty minutes to the amenities of Huntsville.

'The Space' and 'Other things to note' describe fall / winter stays. Dogs are frequent visitors.

The space
This historic cabin was moved to this site from Quebec in 1995. It is a cozy open concept space with a sleeping loft and kitchen. Please note, there is no running water. Prepare to live like a pioneer! But with electricity... We do have the occasional mouse during the fall season when they are looking for a place to live for the winter and with this being a very old structure. Keep this in mind if you are squeemish!

Where you’ll be

Katrine, Ontario, Canada

There are no neighbours to the right of the cabin, some to the left that you can't see and others across the road whose lights are only visible in winter when the leaves are down. Although Katrine and the General Store are 5 minutes away, the cabin very private. The stars are amazing! And it is completely dark at night.
As for the road, there is limited traffic with more on the weekends and in the summer months. The school bus goes by a few times a day with regularity but this is kind of exciting. The cabin is set back from the road but not so far that it is difficult to access. You can drive right to the door.

I love the quiet of the country and hearing the wind in the trees. The night sky and the sound of the birds. Not the buzz of the mosquitoes so much but that comes with the territory at certain times of the year. That's what the city is for - a different kind of buzz with rep cinema, Pho and Thai foodI While I appreciate Toronto and was born and raised here, I have fallen in love with the Almaguin Highlands, the lands around Katrine, Burks Falls and Huntsville. I'm so grateful to live in Canada and I love Ontario! It brings me a lot of joy to share the beauty of these areas.
