Gorgeous Mother-In-Law Suite in Historical 170 y.o. Farm House. With 3 floor to ceiling windows, this suite has plenty of light & lovely views of the hills. Private kitchen is fully stocked & there is a bathroom en suite. The house is situated on the Finger Lake Trails & walking distance from the Jim Schug Trail. Just 13 miles from Downtown Ithaca, 10 Miles from Greek Peak Ski Resort & within a short drive of all the spectacular Vineyards, Gorges & Waterfalls the Finger Lakes has to offer!
The Purvis Farm was settled in the early 1800s & became a prosperous venture for the Purvis Family. By the 1960s much of the land had been sold off, primarily to the Cornell Agriculture School. It is currently surrounded by Cornell owned crops that feed their dairy cows about a mile down the highway. We are only the 3rd owners of this stunning piece of property; it changed hands for the first time in the early 1980s after a fire in the wood shed damaged much of it. The family who purchased the home prior to us lovingly restored it to it's former glory. We only recently acquired the home ourselves, & though she needs a good paint job, she truly is a beautiful home rich with history. If you're interested in learning more, we would be happy to share photos & stories of the original Purvis Family during your visit. Just ask!
Guests have a private entrance & the suite is on the second floor. There is a lovely balcony with table and chairs just outside of the suite that guests are welcome to use. The kitchen is fully stocked with serving for 4, wine & champagne glasses, tumblers, pots, pans, bake ware, cutlery, a microwave, large toaster oven, & coffee maker. The bathroom has basic toiletries & towels for guest use. Additionally, there is an iron and ironing board in the room, a sizable hanging closet, a space heater, small HEPA filter, and a TV with a moderate selection of DVDs. We do not have cable, but we do have wifi available.
Interaction with guests
We are available in the main house (or by phone/text) should you require anything at all. We love interacting with guests, but respect that some visitors are seeking a more private experience. As such, we will interact as much or as little as guests prefer. We only ask that we are immediately alerted if something goes wrong so that we may swiftly remedy the situation.
Other things to note
***Although all guest accommodations are kept completely pet free, we must disclose that we have cats & a rabbit in the main house. We run two HEPA filters 24/7 and vacuum several times per week. We have friends and family with allergies and so endeavor to eradicate as much dander as possible. Please use your judgment when booking; if you know that you are sensitive or have severe allergies & do choose to stay with us, please be sure to keep your Claritin on hand just in case! ***
Smoking is outdoors only and we ask that you use the provided ashtrays or throw away your cigarette butts in the trash after fully extinguished. Please do not flush them as we have a septic system.
To that end, the fire extinguisher is in the kitchen, under the sink :)
We would also appreciate it if you used the available coasters for your hot & cold beverages to protect the furniture/ window sills. Thank you in advance for this.
As a side note, we have the most delicious, clean & crisp tap water I have ever tasted in my life. Allegedly, the same water that feeds our well is also bottled and sold. It's that good!
- Smoking allowed outside only
- Please make an effort to recycle
- Please use available coasters for beverages
- Allert Hosts immediately if something breaks/goes wrong
- Do not flush anything other than toilette paper; we have a septic system that can't handle anything else
Hello! Jesse & I are small business owners in the Ithaca area dealing in antiques and second hand goods. I am also a licensed therapist and work part time as a social worker to continue to give back to the community. We love road trips and have used AirBnB in the past with great experiences. We've recently moved into a fantastic old farm house (so much history!) with the intention of starting a family. As it is now, the house is too big for just the two of us and so we decided to open our home to fellow travelers. The air is fresh, the views are gorgeous, and we just don't want to keep it all to ourselves!
Jesse is a native Ithacan with 25 years experience as a Hair Stylist. I was born in Michigan and lived in NYC for 20 years up until recently. I have a background in performing and social work and needless to say, we both enjoy being around people. We hope that you choose to stay with us and experience the beauty we are fortunate to wake up to every morning.
