This Basque farmhouse, built in 1765 (before the French Revolution), has been beautifully refurbished to offer generous and well-equipped accommodation. Plenty of space, views from every room, wireless internet and excellent cooking facilities (and a pizza oven). The garden extends to around 1 acre and is totally private. The house is set in fields but is a short drive to a small town with shops and restaurants.
We have 2 travel cots, 2 high chairs, potty and kids' plates, bowls and cutlery.
You will love the peace and quiet, and the gorgeous views from every room. The setting of the farmhouse is rural and private but is only a two minutes drive to the pretty village of Viella, which has a bakery, supermarket and pharmacy.
The day room has over 55 sq m of space, and combines cooking, dining and relaxing. A separate lounge, with its own wood-burner, has a TV and DVD player.
The family bathroom has a large high-pressure Italian-style shower and the en suite bedroom has a wash basin and shower cubicle.
Beds are ready on arrival; bathrooms are equipped with thick 600gsm towels (bath towel and hand towel for each guest) and soaps. In the kitchen you will find a Nespresso machine, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and filter coffee machine as well as essentials like oil, salt, pepper, vinegar and sugar. The range cooker has a 5-ring gas hob, two electric ovens and a grill. Plenty of knives, pans and lots of other kitchen equipment. If you fancy being a little more adventurous, why not use the wood oven to make pizzas?
Relaxing is easy because of the beautiful setting, but you'll enjoy the electric recliner sofas in the lounge and the rotating reading chair downstairs.
Of course there is a washing machine at your disposal, as well as an iron.
The entire property is at your disposal, with over an acre of space. You will have exclusive use of the house and garden; we just ask you to not venture upstairs in the barns as the stairs aren't safe.
Interaction with guests
Our housekeeper, James, lives locally and is available during your stay in case of any questions. For check-ins before 7pm, James can usually meet you at the house. However, we are happy to leave you a key so that you can let yourselves in - it's up to you!
Other things to note
Check-in is from 4pm - this is because we need time to clean the house and ensure the beds are made, ready for your arrival.
Smoking is permitted outside only, well away from any buildings. Given the bushfire risk in this area, we ask that you collect any cigarette ends and dispose of these before you leave.
What I love most is sharing our beautiful region with guests from all over the world. It's so unspoiled compared to other parts of France, and the weather really is fantastic. I just love it when people are delighted by what Gascony has to offer. My small part in this is making sure you have everything you need for your stay - go on, ask me that question!
