The space

A bit of history:
Old historic home, declare national monument in 1978 with direct alley of Architectural Heritage, built by Carlo Antonio Usellini in 1783 and designed by an unknown Dutch architect .

The oldest part of the House dates back to 1530. Used as a residence for nearly a century, in the early 1900s undergoes major restructuring to become summer residence.

The house has been featured in many of Gianfilippo Usellini paintings, and many different angles can be recognized in his works during XX century.
The Palace housed also Guglielmo Usellini, founder of the European Federalist Movement, together with Jean Monnet and Spinelli in the middle of XX century.
The house is still to these days inhabited by members of the Family Usellini.

Juan Carlos Usellini has restored the old sheds and carriages for horses to make home for his family.

A large courtyard is surrounded by three distinct buildings, the Palace itself, with a portico with columns of pink granite from Baveno supporting a broad terrace; the celebrations House, as a backdrop to the Italian garden, and the old stables.

The lake is just 30 meters away, with few equipped bathing facilities in the nearby area. From Arona you can take beautiful trips, by boat or by car, to Stresa, the Borromeo Islands and reaching even Switzerland.

During winter time, you can enjoy the full range of winter sports in the nearby mountains.

Usellini Palace can be reached by train along the Simplon line, by car and by plane: the airport of Malpensa is just 30km away.

Big families, like the host's family, are very welcome in the house!

Guest access

The big garden is in share with others members of my family; they don't agree with public use; so be kind and make a discreet use of the garden, thank you.

We are in the ancient center of the town, in a pedestrian zone just close to the old port.

Usellini Palace can be reached by train along the Simplon line from Milano, Torino, Novara; by car and by plane: the airport of Malpensa is just 30km away. There are, taxi, bus and train from there to Arona.

Our stay was so great! The host was super friendly and made breakfast at our chosen time. The room is charming, unique and is in a beautiful court yard. We would definitely stay again!

Beautiful stay in a real palazzo in Arona! The location couldn't be better near the waterfront, cafes, and the pedestrian district. Juan Carlos' communication and hospitality was excellent, and the breakfast was nice too! The space appears to be a renovated stable from the Usellini pallazo- it is quirky and as beautiful as the photos. The only cons were: there is basically no soundproofing, and we could hear everything in the room next to us. Additionally, we didn't know beforehand that we couldn't use the lovely gardens and courtyards all around the space. Still it's a great value in a beautiful location so I highly recommend it!

Juan Carlos is a great host, flexible with arrival and checkout times. Simple breakfast with freshly brewed coffee was served in the room every morning with a knock on the door upon the agreed time. Waking up with the sun in the large (stable!) windows and looking out into the garden was wonderful. It's a pity that the garden is private but you can still enjoy it when opening all doors and windows. The location is right in the middle of the old historic town but really quiet. There's a nice restaurant just across the street (Osteria da Dre') and at the end of the street, you'll find the shopping area and the central square with lots of bars, restaurants and terrazzos. And of course the lake, as well as the long and beautiful boulevard which overlooks the lake with stunning views on the Rocca de Angera, with nice places for the aperitivo (drinks with bites). We cycled to Stresa, easy and very scenic. We highly recommend to stay in Arona, because it's not so touristy, and if you're there, Casa Usselini is a great place to stay.

Very cool to stay at this historic place in the heart of old Arona. The courtyard is beautiful and rustic. Juan Carlos was a wonderful host and gave some great recommendations on how to make the most of our stay including a really cool cheese shop.

Consigliamo caldamente!
