What a treat! We were after a after a nice relaxing break in a pretty village and that's just what we got. Caroline was there when we arrived and went through everything we may need during our stay. She was very friendly and great with our two boys (3 and 5), she also suggested some things to do during our stay (like walks and places to visit) some of which we did and throughly enjoyed. The cottage itself was very charming and spotlessly clean. We particularly enjoyed enjoying our morning coffee sitting in the bay windows looking out to the village. There cottage was also stocked up with plenty of treats which was unexpected, and a nice surprise. Overall, staying at Bay Tree Cottage was lovely and we would very much like to come back one day :)

Bay Tree Cottage is absolutely exquisite, perfect in every conceivable way. Clean and beautifully maintained (with a gorgeous private back garden, as well), the cottage is thoughtfully stocked with provisions for sleeping, bathing, cooking, and breakfasting. Caroline and Etienne have kept the cottage's 17th-century character, from its large, cosy fireplace to the exposed beams of the original timber frame. Its location is also hard to beat, as Chawton is a quintessentially charming, quiet English village, and it is an easy drive to such attractions as the Historic Dockyards in Portsmouth, the city of Winchester, and Stonehenge. Of course, the cottage is also a stroll away from Jane Austen's house, an excellent museum, as well as her brother's stately Tudor home, now known as Chawton House Library. But though the surrounding sights were fascinating, our favourite part of each day was simply returning to this splendid cottage. It is without doubt the best experience that my wife and I have ever had with an Airbnb, and I highly recommend Bay Tree Cottage to anyone who has a reason to stay in Hampshire. We ourselves will certainly be returning to stay in future!

Love! Whether you adore Jane Austen or not, you'll adore the Bay Tree Cottage. It's cozy and old-fashioned blended with modernized and comfortable. Caroline was one of the most welcoming hosts I've ever had the pleasure to meet. She took note of our bed for a crib for a baby and, voila, had one waiting for us. And everything else has been thought of too--supplies for the kitchen and goodies for breakfast and snacking. The WiFi is very good. The bathroom is clean, the water is hot. The kitchen is efficient and has everything you need. The beds are comfortable. All of this in a cleaning charming cottage. And then there's the village! I had chosen this place while looking for something reasonably close to Highclere. To have the world of Jane Austen at our doorstep was such a bonus. We visited the museum that was her house, and Chawton House (her brothers home at the other end of the village) with its lovely church and beautiful grounds. We ate lunch at Greyfiar's Pub and my kids played at the playground in the village. Such a perfect stay. Nearby Alton is very convenient for any grocery needs. I can't recommend Bay Tree Cottage enough.

Caroline is a lovely and friendly host who made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. She was very kind and helpful throughout our stay. The cottage is decorated in a beautiful way with lovely furniture throughout, lovely bedding and all the little extras you can hope for from luxurious towels to a good wifi connection. It has the perfect touch of historical beauty and modern day practical necessities. The Kitchen and bathroom are modern, clean and practical while the rest of the cottage has a lot of character. The attention to detail was amazing, showing that the host went to great lengths to make you feel comfortable with little extras including fresh fruits, biscuits, milk and more. The location is perfect, one a quite road and close to Jane Austen’s House Musuem. We are looking forward to coming back soon on our next trip to Chawton. I would highly recommend this place!

Bay Tree Cottage is a very special place and Caroline and her family are the most charming, caring and thoughtful hosts. The cottage is absolutely delightful, beautifully decorated and finished to an extremely high standard as well as being a few steps away from Jane Austen's house. When we arrived it was spotlessly clean and we couldn't believe how much had been left for us; a huge 4 pints of milk, strawberries, fresh bread, yoghurts, as well as tea, coffee, luxury biscuits, chocolate and cooking ingredients. The personalised itinerary that Caroline and her daughter suggested and emailed to us for Tuesday was great. My mother described it as 'an enchanted day'. We will be recommending Bay Tree Cottage to anyone who will listen. Thank you.

Interaction with guests

We aim to always meet and greet our guests. We live locally so will always be on hand for anything you need. We also offer where possible to pick guests up from the Alton railway station free of charge (we do work so it would have to fit around our own working arrangements). We are also happy to assist in any way with recommendations for local restaurants, tourist information, and our favourite walks and hikes.

Our main priority is that you have a lovely time and that you leave Chawton wanting to come back.
