A heritage waterfront cottage on Tasmania’s wild west coast, Captain’s Rest is a place where magic truly lives. Morning light pours through enormous antique windows, the water stays glass-still, and the only soundtrack is little birds singing at the edge of the jetty.

Here, warmth comes in layers. The Nectre wood-burning stove anchors the cottage with endless comfort, turning even Tasmania’s coldest winter into a sanctuary. Unlimited local firewood keeps the ritual alive, while reverse-cycle heating and cooling ensure effortless climate control.

The deep soaking bath is positioned perfectly to capture the water views. With endless hot water, your daily ritual becomes restoration. A seasonally curated library offers companions for slow mornings, while Starlink keeps those who need to work gently connected.

The compact kitchen is small but meticulously equipped for cooking with Tasmania’s incredible produce or recreating family favourites. Every detail is considered.

We are proudly an inclusive stay and ​everyone is welcome here in this safe ​and restorative space.

Please kindly note, that Captains Rest is not suitable for children or pets due to the delicate nature of its furnishings, and the hazards of the water and aging jetties out front. We also only have a step-in bath — so this listing might not suit those who prefer to shower or have mobility issues.

We stock a basic pantry that includes: Ground Coffee Beans, Milk, Black and Herbal Teas, Salt, Pepper & Olive Oil with plunger or drip coffee-making options.

We are all about soaking it up. Walk in the forest next to Captains Rest, swim in the water, fires on the beach and long nights reading in front of the fire. Watch the night stars reflect on the water, and listen on the bird songs upon awakening.

Lettes Bay Historical village itself is a hive of wild west coast activity in summer, and almost abandoned in winter. We love both equally.
