Welcome to your home in the hills at this serene quiet hamlet Nadi in the village of Khaniyara. This traditional slate roofed three bedroom cottage is on the slopes of Dhauladhar mountain ranges overlooking the town of Dharamsala. The caretakers Joginder and his wife Nirmala would take care of your needs including home cooked food. Our cottage is home away from home while not being too far from the town. We are eight kilometres from Dharamsala bus stand and twelve kilometres from Mcleodganj.

The space
There is a fresh water stream about 300 metres walk and the famous landscaped Norbulingka Tibetan Cultural Center is just 4 kms away. Other place of interest - Close to Norbulingka is the most visited Joyful Café which serves one of the best thin crust wood fire pizzas in this part of the town. ‘Taste of Tibet’ near Joyful Cafe serves good Tibetan and Indian cuisines at reasonable price. You can take some time out for Naam Art Gallery close to Sidhbari (four kms from the cottage) which exhibits paintings by renowned artist Elisbeth Buschmann.

Joginder, can perhaps take you on a trekking trail to the slate quarry or the hills closeby. If lucky may encounter some wild life enroute.

Other places of interest are not too far away, St John’s Church near Mcleodganj (Historical and heritage monument), His Holiness Dalai Lama’s temple, Bhagsu Nag falls, Dal lake, Walk to Dharamkot, Trek to Triund and Lakha (snow line), exploring the shops and restaurant in the alleys of Mcleodganj.

Bir Biling famous for para gliding is at 70 kms (approx two hours drive) from here. The flying season is from March to May and September to October, with some flying also done in November. Short para gliding sortie (flying time 10 minutes) is available from Indrunag (7 kms approx) from the cottage.

As in most of the hills this place has a lot of Hindu mythological temples, Kunal Pathri temple, Bhagsu Nag temple (Mcleodganj) and Chamunda mata temple. For the religiously adventurous ones slightly far are Chintpurni mata temple (71 kms), the shiva temple at Baijnath (50 kms) and the jawalaji temple (55kms).

The Kangra Fort is located 20 kilometers from Dharamshala on the outskirts of the town of Kangra. It is the largest fort in the Himalayas and probably the oldest dated fort in India. Also near to old Kangra is the famous Jayanti Mata temple on a hill top. The Temple was built by the General of the Gorkha Army, Bada Kaji Amar Singh Thapa. Also close to entrance is a small museum which exhibits the history of Kangra fort.Adjoining the Fort is the Maharaja Sansar Chand Katoch Museum run by the Royal Family of Kangra. The Museum also provides audio guides for the fort and the museum and has a cafeteria.

For those who have inclination towards arts you may visit Shobha Singh’s Art gallery and Museum at Andhretta, near Palampur (Approx 30 kms from the cottage) which is managed by his daughter Bibi Gurcharan Kaur. You can try your hand at Pottery in Andretta Pottery & Craft Society Village. Andretta Pottery is run by Mansimran "Mini" Singh, son of famous potter Gurcharan Singh.

And of course if you wish to just relax there is always the option of reading or writing a book in the serene surrounding of the cottage or just absorbing the beauty of nature in the stillness of the moment.

Our family cottage offers you a home away from home with hygienically prepared homemade food cooked by Nirmala, with personal flavours as desired with enough privacy since the whole cottage is to yourself. For the little ones there are books and board games to let you truly enjoy the moments for yourself.

There is enough to satisfy and rejuvenate all kinds of souls, from the adventure and pleasure seeking to the ones in quest of solitude and enriching their soul.

This is my home & I would appreciate if no eating is done in the bedrooms.

Other things to note
Food/meal charges will be extra. We provide homelike simple food. Menu options are fixed/limited. You may choose any one of the following items for breakfast Aloo Parathas/ Aloo Puri/ Poha with curd and pickle/ Choice of eggs with bread or toast with butter and jam; tea or coffee. Lunch and dinner would be Rice/ Rotis with seasonal vegetable, dal, paneer dish/ chicken curry, curd & pickle.

Caretaker and his wife are available for cooking of food. They clean the cottage too.

The master bedroom has a television with all the major channels, including kids & sports.

For your safety and well being, the house has a first aid kit.

Board games like Uno cards, carrom board, Ludo, chess etc are available.

Books and comic books available.

We have electric geysers with 25 litres capacity in all the bathrooms. However, during winters, it takes longer to heat up the water, sometimes 30-40 minutes. This is primarily due to water being very cold and the ambient temperature too being low.

There are usually no power cuts in Himachal Pradesh. However, during any power breakdown, we do have an inverter that kicks in for a few hours & runs majority of the lights & all the fans.

It is an administrative requirement that all foreign nationals be registered with the local authorities; hence I would require your Passport, Indian Visa & Air ticket details on reaching. Kitchen is out of bounds for the guests.

It's far from the maddening crowd. Peaceful; no audibles; on a clear night, starry sky. You can spend time reading books and bird watching.

I am an ex Commander of the Indian Navy and belong to this beautiful town of Dharamshala. After hosting several friends at my lovely cottage and getting great appreciation and feedback from them my wife Priti and I decided to share it with all others though the reliable site of Air BNB. We love the cottage and its surrounding including the tiny locality inhabiting it and would love to share this wonderful place and experience with those who equally love and respect the environment, be it the birds and trees or the simple inhabitants who make this place special.
