LAST-MINUTE notice of early arrival on a Sunday morning and I slept past the alarm and calls. This has never happened before, and won’t happen again. Sorry for any trouble! Let me know if there’s anything I can do. I now left you a 4-star review, because in our sms conversation you seemed to have forgiven me, and actually be a warm and nice person. The only one star missing is the weak communication.
Next, I’ll share the whole story, in case my future guests want to know what really happened, for the purpose of making their own judgement: Initially, I made an exception to my 12 o'clock check-in at that time, cause Roy wanted to have the key and leave the luggage as soon as he’d arrive. I agreed because I wanted to help him, as I always want to help my guests as best as I can. The communication was slow, sometimes I waited for days for an answer, sometimes I didn't get them at all. I calculate up to 8 messages in total, so not bombing him with messages or anything like that. Finally, I only got Roy’s exact arrival time on the evening before arrival. Then that early Sunday morning and Roy arrived. I failed when he tried to call, and I apologise deeply for that. Suddenly I needed my sleep and slept past both the alarm and all calls for 4 hours. The time was now closer to my normal check-in time 12 (noon). I could have also gotten sick, and that was almost the case. I had been working too much during the entire month, with a cultural production (Helsinki Night of the Arts) that had just ended, and building an exhibition (Helsinki Design Week) to be ready in the following week. Heavy 8-23 o-clock working days. It's not an excuse, but tells my side of the story to Roy and all future guests. It’s intensive, but rewarding. Because of these productions I’m also always able to recommend best arts, design, science and music happenings in the city, which is a truly unique offering and really appreciated by all guests. Once I apologised for being late and offered the rather generous discount for his trouble, that was not accepted. Roy kept me hanging for 6 hours without a confirmation of a cancelled booking, and calling to Airbnb didn’t help cause the lines to SF headquarters were too blurry to hear. “Too little discount” happens to be a big thing for me because I live on the income from Airbnb while working on volunteering basis for the best cultural and community projects in the Nordic countries, and therefore am not able to take a normal job or be included in the social system. 100% my choice - but also 100% collective value for people.
If I could learn anything important from this, it would be that I shouldn’t agree on early check-ins and be more careful to host people with too different lifestyles - which is a pity too, cause it’s all about sharing and learning across cultures and lifestyles. Airbnb is from people to people, so sometimes there may happen a human error. People with exclusive hotel experience might not understand that. Something like this might happen, even if I agree with Roy that it should never happen, but this was an exception due to the circumstances, and my overall long-term rating shows the truth. This was a horrible experience. Now let’s forget about it. Peace
