Our bright, two bedroom flat on a beautiful tree-lined Avenue in Darlinghurst is a quiet oasis moments from fantastic cafés & restaurants, & is a great base for exploring Sydney & beyond! 20mins walk from city, 5-10min walk to train, and 2mins to bus.

The space

Our apartment is in an old, converted Victorian terrace house, surrounded by quiet walking streets, cafes, bars, restaurants, supermarkets and shops, Saturday markets and a cosmopolitan neighbourhood. The city centre, Sydney harbour, Opera House, the NSW Art Gallery, Australian Museum, Rushcutter's Bay, Paddington and Surry Hills are all within a 5-20min walk away. Access to all areas of Sydney and beyond. Kings Cross train station is 5mins away, and access to the major bus routes to Sydney's beaches 2mins away.

YES, we provide bed linen, blankets and towels. It's hardly a holiday if you have to bring your own!
We provide milk, fresh coffee and a French Press (plunger) and tea to get you started for your stay. We NO LONGER HAVE A NESPRESSO MACHINE due to environmental concerns regarding the excess waste created, but we provide fresh, good quality coffee to get you started for the French Press, and there are so many amazing cafes to try out within a 2-10min walk. We also try to keep our cooking basics stocked (salt, pepper and sugar) to minimise your food shopping for your self catered stay, and try to ensure some cooking oil is available, but we ask guests to please keep in mind a stay in our home is a self-catered stay. We ask guests to kindly let us know if our standard pantry items need replacing, when departing.

This is not a new apartment building, but an old converted, 1800's terrace house (converted in the 1920's when Darlinghurst had the nickname 'Razorhurst' !) While we love the building character, we realise some people prefer 'new', and would suggest that this may not be the place for these people.

LAUNDRY:
Access to shared laundry located off the shared rear courtyard, with two Washing Machines (shared between four apartments). Please note we do not have a dryer in the building. We, like most Australians, use the clotheslines to dry our washing.

Close to laundromats also (5 min walk) if you prefer to drop things off for wash/dry, or if you need a dryer.

WE ARE CHILD FRIENDLY!
We have two young children ourselves and understand that little things can make traveling with kids so much easier! If it helps, we can provide:
- lift-up safety screen to gas log open fire
- Travel cot
- Cot linen
- Baby High Chair
- Baby bath
- Children's cutlery, cups and plates
We ask that parents supervise children carefully when staying, and also ensure food is not eaten while sitting on the sofa. Please clean up any spills and mess, if they happen, as soon as they happen, in particular on our high chair, which provided at no additional charge for your use.
**Please note that we do require an extra charge for these items if infants are in addition to 4 other guests of any age. Airbnb has recently changed policy so that children under 2 are not counted as guests in the booking total. We are parents and understand that a child/ infant in addition to 4 other guests does put additional load on utilities and on our home. We keep our standard rates to very reasonable levels for a two bedroom two bathroom apartment in Sydney, but must charge for additional guests beyond the 4 accommodated at standard rates, no matter how young** Thanks for your understanding.

ABOUT THE LOCATION:
The apartment is in a great location, surrounded by pedestrian streets. Darlinghurst is now a sought-after suburb of Sydney, particluarly for young creatives and families, and is also popular with downsizers, offering walking distance to the city, Paddington, Surry Hills and Potts Point and great restaurants and nightlife, while being a short trip to beautiful surrounding parks and the beaches of Sydney. Womerah Avenue (our street) itself is considered one of (if not the best!) streets in Darlinghurst. Quiet and tree-lined, it is home to both a large number of young singles and couples, and a growing number of families who aren't willing to leave the convenience and spoils of the area behind for the suburbs!

PERSONAL SAFETY
We live in the area with our six and eight year old children, as do a large number of other families. Womerah Ave and the Darlinghurst area has gentrified over the last 10 years, and is one of the most creative and desirable areas of Sydney. The area is highly populated and, using common sense, we have never felt anything but safe in the inner city area.

CARS
Parking on the street is time limited. Car rental locations are close by and GoGet car-share is easy and available close by. Locals walk everywhere or use the buses and trains - the location is central and this is easy. If you have a car let us know and we may be able to provide a space for you to park.
A number of "GoGet" car-share vehicles are located within a two minute walk of the apartment. Parking is free in "car-share" spaces and foreign licences are accepted. Prior to leaving home (to avoid delays in waiting for activation card to arrive in post) you can register using our address for the information pack and activation card. Search for GoGet Car Share Sydney. Look for the FAQ's.

PLEASE NOTE:
Our flat is up a flight of stairs, on the first floor of an old 1930's altered (1890's built) Victorian terrace with four flats. Our flat is over two levels, with the main bedroom (and one of the two bathrooms) up an internal flight of stairs.
There is no bath.
Washing machines in a shared laundry accessed from the shared courtyard. There is a drying rack provided in case you want to hand wash or dry items inside. If you do this, please open the windows to ventilate our home.

This is a NO SMOKING BUILDING, INCLUDING E-CIGARETTES. Absolutely no smoking is allowed either inside the apartment or in the shared courtyard. This is a firm rule, about which we are unapologetic. This is important, and ignoring this rule will impact on your security deposit. We have young children and value our smoke free home. Adjoining residents and neighbours include asthmatics who specifically rely on the smoke free building for their health. **Please do not stand on the front steps or front footpath in front of the building smoking - the smoke blows back inside the building**

Please note that we cannot store luggage before guest arrivals, or after guest departures, however we can direct you to a short term luggage storage facility within a 5-10min Uber/taxi ride away, so you can make the most of the first/ last days of your stay.

We ask guests to please remove their shoes inside for hygiene reasons, and to minimise structure bourne noise on the internal timber stairs and timber floors to the upstairs bedroom. As this is an old converted terrace house, the ceiling structure is framed, and noise can carry to our neighbours below, and to adjoining next door neighbours. We have always been thoughtful to do what we can to maintain a respectful mutual relationship with our neighbours and ask our guests to do the same.

Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ALLOW BOOKED GUESTS TO HAVE VISITORS/ UNREGISTERED GUESTS IN OUR BUILDING OR HOME AT ALL, LET ALONE ALLOW PARTIES/GATHERINGS. **BOOKED GUESTS ONLY PLEASE**
Access to the building and to our home is limited to booked guests only at all times, to ensure the security, privacy and quiet environment of our building is maintained for our lovely neighbours within, and next to the building.

We ask guests to please remove their shoes inside our flat for hygiene reasons, and to minimise structure bourne noise on the internal timber stairs and timber floors to the upstairs bedroom. As this is an old converted terrace house, the ceiling structure is framed, and noise can carry to our neighbours below, and to adjoining next door neighbours. We have always been thoughtful to do what we can to maintain a respectful mutual relationship with our neighbours and ask our guests to do the same by not wearing shoes on the internal stairs, and not allowing children to run up and down the internal stair. Our neighbours next door will hear these sounds at an amplified volume due to the nature of adjoining terrace house buildings constructed over a century ago!

As detailed in our listing, there are stairs. There are approx 10-12 stairs at the front of the building, off the street (all houses on our side of the street are set slightly above the street). As our building is a converted Victorian terrace house building, there are an original, narrow Victorian set of stairs inside our building to access the entry to our first floor, two bedroom flat ('Quiet Oasis in Darlinghurst'). Further, our two bedroom flat ('Quiet Oasis in Darlinghurst') is over two levels, so there is an internal stair within our flat, as is seen in the photographs.

There is an external security camera at the building entrance for security reasons, for building management to monitor guest numbers (*registered guests only*, with a max of 4 registered guests as stated), and visitors to the building in breach of our 'house rules'.

We are only 10 minutes away to assist if necessary, but will leave you to enjoy your stay in privacy. We like to provide flexible check in and check out times where possible, and can provide recommendations for great cafes, restaurants and bars in the area. For families with younger children we can assist with little extras like a baby bath, travel cot, cot linen and baby high-chair if requested. Just ask!
