The space

Two rooms, private bath (shower), upstairs guest suite. Separate entrance, kitchenette, with queen sized bed, Cable TV, wireless internet, urban rooftop views. Close to transportation (the free Emery-Go-Round bus to BART is two blocks away), next door to Pixar Animation Studios, Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe.

We furnished this space with an eye for comfort. An opening roof window/skylight and angled ceilings contribute to a European vibe. As this is an old (1901 vintage) house, the bedroom has a sink and mirror in it, some people find this a surprise. The kitchen includes a partially stocked fridge, hot water maker for coffee and tea (provided) and microwave. To be clear, there is no stove (kitchen range). The kitchenette has dishes, glasses and silverware - just ask if you need something. Sheets and towels are provided, and will go directly to the wash after you depart - don't bother making the bed, we do appreciate if you leave your guest suite neat and tidy though ;-) This space is best for one or two people.

Emeryville is a small city on the bay between Oakland and Berkeley, just across the Bay from San Francisco. It has transitioned from being an industrial center to become a shopping mecca. Bay Street is the main shopping district, with a 16 screen theater and stores like Uniqlo, the Apple Store, Banana Republic, Williams Sonoma, Barnes & Noble, Coach, The Gap, Old Navy, H&M, Abercrombie and many others. Restaurants abound at Bay Street, with Buckhorn Grill, California Pizza Kitchen, Elephant Bar, P.F. Chang, Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill, among others. Upscale choices like Brown Sugar Kitchen, Summer Summer Thai, and if you want old school, Trader Vic's, are all close at hand. Of course we have our favorites and are glad to share them with you. Nearby is another shopping area, with other stores such as Urban Outfitters, Peet's Coffee and more dining opportunities. If you pull up in front with a van, we'll know to give you directions to IKEA, which is almost next door!

Guest access

Convenient, free street parking (no meters) is available and there is a coin laundry off our courtyard. The courtyard is a tranquil space featuring lush plantings and a fish pond. Your suite will greet you with fresh fruit, as well as coffee and a variety of teas.

Interaction with guests

We plan to be available onsite (we live in a separate area downstairs). We are happy to help with special requests when possible, including pickup at or a ride to BART, and directions to local attractions. We're near the East Bay anchorage of the Bay Bridge - San Francisco is 7 miles away! We want to make our guests welcome and comfortable.

Other things to note

Please keep us updated via text or phone call as to your arrival time. We gladly make time to meet you, show you to your suite and give you the keys - but we also leave the house to do errands, have dinner plans, etc. We appreciate that your time is valuable, and expect you to extend that consideration to us as well.

Michael and Ben are amazing hosts and Bens knowledge of San Francisco is extensive. Their studio apartment is compact and immaculate and has just about everything you will need for a short stay. Their suite is a convenient bus ride to San Francisco although you can also take the BART which is linked to the free Emeryville shuttle which stops near their place. We slept well in the comfortable queen sized bed and the little decorator touches throughout the suite made our stay a wonderful experience. Thank you Michael and Ben for a memorable stay!

We had a great stay- comfortable little studio with everything we needed. The shower is rather tiny, but the hospitality is first class. It took about an hour to get into the city or home again by public transport- took us a while to find our feet with this. The Emeryville free shuttle is a great bonus- reliable and regular. Not as convenient as being in the city, but so much more affordable. Hamburger place right over the road is a fantastic option on a cold wet evening.

We had a fantastic stay at Ben and Mike's Oakland apartment. They made us feel extremely welcome, communicated brilliantly and went above and beyond by leaving little snacks, taking us for a little tour up to the hills in their own time and giving us lots of tips about their home town.

I now understood why Mike and Ben has such good reviews from previous travellers. They are genuinely helpful and friendly hosts and the suite is so clean and comfortable. We gave them our estimated arrival time when we were on the Bart and 50 minutes later was pleasantly surprised to see Ben outside waving to us as we wheeled our suitcase towards the house. Public transport was easy once we got the hang of the system. We took emery go round to go to a near by BART station. The emery go round was free and ran frequently. The BART ride into San Francisco was about 20minutes or so. The car rental companies Avis/Budget were 10-15 walk away. Street parking was super easy at night time when we had a rental car for the last two days. Ben and Mike were so helpful in giving us travel tips. The suite was wonderfully decorated with taste and well equipped with everything you need. We loved having a separate living space and having a kitchen bar. Mike and Ben also provided some fruits, snacks, coffee/hot chocolate/tea. They also graciously cleaned up a mess my daughter made when she was such. We had a great 6 days stay and would not hesitate to recommend such a wonderful Airbnb.

Ben and Michael were perfect hosts. We were met at the Amtrak station by Michael and at the end of our visit Ben dropped us at the Bart Station. Ben took time to show us maps and explain how the transport system worked and places that we should visit. The 3-day Muni pass that Ben recommended was invaluable. The Emery-go-around shuttle bus made getting into San Francisco by the Bart so much easier. We would not hesitate to recommend this Airbnb and will stay here again if we are back in San Francisco. It was a great visit.

We had a fantastic time being hosted by Ben and Michael! Our suite was beautifully laid out and had lovely quotes and amenities throughout. We were also given a map, directions, and an activities guide for San Francisco. Ben also spent time with us on arrival explaining the various forms of transport we could take, as well as providing us with personalised dining and activity ideas based on his knowledge and our interest. We would love to stay with them next time we are in San Francisco.

Michael & Ben User ProfileMichael & Ben is a superhost.

I love to travel and with my husband Ben, have visited the Scandinavian countries, much of Europe and recently, Japan & China. I grew up in coastal Texas, and moved to California in 1973. Living in Paris in the mid-1970's changed my life! A life long love of visiting other places was born. Though not fluent in French, I'm almost there... I enjoy painting in oil and watercolor, and we both like gardening, home improvement, cooking, fine wine, meeting new people and spending time with friends and family. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Ben enjoys giving tips to travelers about how best they can spend their traveling time and sharing his favorite local attractions. He has been known to provide our guests with personalized tours. We're both looking forward to hosting on Airbnb - we've spent the past several months improving and furnishing rooms for this endeavor.

Our goal as hosts is to ensure that your stay in the San Francisco Bay Area is enjoyable and memorable. Please feel free to ask questions.
