We furnished this space with an eye for comfort. An opening roof window/skylight and angled ceilings contribute to a European vibe. As this is an old (1901 vintage) house, the bedroom has a sink and mirror in it, some people find this a surprise. The kitchen includes a partially stocked fridge, hot water maker for coffee and tea (provided) and microwave. To be clear, there is no stove (kitchen range). The kitchenette has dishes, glasses and silverware - just ask if you need something. Sheets and towels are provided, and will go directly to the wash after you depart - don't bother making the bed, we do appreciate if you leave your guest suite neat and tidy though ;-) This space is best for one or two people.
Emeryville is a small city on the bay between Oakland and Berkeley, just across the Bay from San Francisco. It has transitioned from being an industrial center to become a shopping mecca. Bay Street is the main shopping district, with a 16 screen theater and stores like Uniqlo, the Apple Store, Banana Republic, Williams Sonoma, Barnes & Noble, Coach, The Gap, Old Navy, H&M, Abercrombie and many others. Restaurants abound at Bay Street, with Buckhorn Grill, California Pizza Kitchen, Elephant Bar, P.F. Chang, Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill, among others. Upscale choices like Brown Sugar Kitchen, Summer Summer Thai, and if you want old school, Trader Vic's, are all close at hand. Of course we have our favorites and are glad to share them with you. Nearby is another shopping area, with other stores such as Urban Outfitters, Peet's Coffee and more dining opportunities. If you pull up in front with a van, we'll know to give you directions to IKEA, which is almost next door!
Convenient, free street parking (no meters) is available and there is a coin laundry off our courtyard. The courtyard is a tranquil space featuring lush plantings and a fish pond. Your suite will greet you with fresh fruit, as well as coffee and a variety of teas.
Interaction with guests
We plan to be available onsite (we live in a separate area downstairs). We are happy to help with special requests when possible, including pickup at or a ride to BART, and directions to local attractions. We're near the East Bay anchorage of the Bay Bridge - San Francisco is 7 miles away! We want to make our guests welcome and comfortable.
Other things to note
Please keep us updated via text or phone call as to your arrival time. We gladly make time to meet you, show you to your suite and give you the keys - but we also leave the house to do errands, have dinner plans, etc. We appreciate that your time is valuable, and expect you to extend that consideration to us as well.
Guests must have a completed PROFILE before being considered. It need not be exhaustive, just a few details. Thank you. No smoking of any kind, please. No pets allowed, thanks. No loud parties. We have a high expectation of cleanliness and respect for the property.
Check In Time is 3PM. Earlier arrivals may be permitted by previous arrangement. Otherwise, we are happy to receive your luggage if you contact us to arrange to drop it off earlier. We want your stay to be in accommodations that are scrupulously clean, and require time between guests to accomplish this.

I love to travel and with my husband Ben, have visited the Scandinavian countries, much of Europe and recently, Japan & China. I grew up in coastal Texas, and moved to California in 1973. Living in Paris in the mid-1970's changed my life! A life long love of visiting other places was born. Though not fluent in French, I'm almost there... I enjoy painting in oil and watercolor, and we both like gardening, home improvement, cooking, fine wine, meeting new people and spending time with friends and family. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Ben enjoys giving tips to travelers about how best they can spend their traveling time and sharing his favorite local attractions. He has been known to provide our guests with personalized tours. We're both looking forward to hosting on Airbnb - we've spent the past several months improving and furnishing rooms for this endeavor.
Our goal as hosts is to ensure that your stay in the San Francisco Bay Area is enjoyable and memorable. Please feel free to ask questions.
