Mario met us at the house. He walked us through the house showing us the amenities. He recommended the restaurant just down the hill, the food was amazing. The house is as authentic as can be, as was the whole village of Apella. What a beautiful place! Thank you Mario, we will recommend you to our family when they come over from the US.

Staying at Mario's was such a treat - situated in a hamlet in the mountains, with the most incredible views, it was the perfect getaway for a few nights. It was peaceful, comfortable, unique, super clean...perfect. Mario is a wonderful host - he welcomed us with open arms, providing us with fantastic tips on where to eat and visit. His wife even made us a pie and jam! These are special people indeed. The September evenings were chilly but Mario gave us plenty of wood to keep us cosy by the fire. It was a splendid stay and I highly recommend Apella to anyone looking for a special mountain escape.

La Corte is an old stone house in a hillside village in rural Italy. The village is tucked away in a wooded valley up steep, winding roads so you are really away from it all. However, there is a very good hotel restaurant, with excellent food, two minutes drive away, and some of the other houses in the village have been turned into accommodation and a breakfast room for the hotel where can go and have breakfast for 6 Euros. The hotel also has a swimming pool with amazing views that is just a short walk away. Mario's house is quite small, but is fitted out to a high standard, but the best feature is the large garden which is full of sun, flowers, garden furniture and even has a brick barbecue with a chimney. The bedrooms are accessed by very steep, open stairs that are clearly shown in one of the pictures. The house is very much part of the village, interconnecting with other properties, terraces and gardens. You park your car in the car park at the edge of town, but the house is only a minutes walk away. There is a door to the basement bedrooms from the main path/archway into the village so you don't need to take heavy bags up and down the steep stairs. We went for the first two weeks of September, and unfortunately experienced cooler weather and several days of heavy rain, which put a literal dampener on our holiday. However Mario went out of his way to make up for this, checking we were ok and insisting that we lit a fire on the cold rainy days. On our arrival he also welcomed us with wine and food, and on request had booked us into the restaurant. We couldn't have asked for more from him as a host.

To anyone looking for a quiet retreat in the hills of Tuscany surrounded by beautiful scenery and sleepy villages... look no further. Marios place is ideal, and you couldn't wish for a nicer or more hospitable host. Super walks right outside your door in the little hamlet of Apella. Lovely traditional market towns just 10-15 minutes drive away where you can buy fresh local produce to enjoy in the tranquil garden of Mario's place, or indulge in the many top quality family run eateries. Its a great place to return to after a days outing, visiting any number of the famous landmarks in this part of Italy. I can highly recommend Mario's super little cottage.

Mario's welcome was the best I have ever experienced through Airbnb. He met up with us in Aulla and led us to his apartment in a beautifully restored borgo. Private garden spilling over with flowers and tranquility, freshly prepared crostata and bottle of local wine, homemade amaro, fruit in the fridge. Apella is in a great position to relax in the lush Lunigiana, remote enough for repose immersed in nature but close to Bagnone and other towns, piave, castles for the exploration minded. I wish we could have stayed longer! Mario is from the area and a truly wonderful host. Complimenti e grazie ancora
