Set on 300 acres, the cottage overlooks our native forest, grasslands and Mt Kooroocheang. Moorakyle Retreat is a relaxing, stylish and comfortable getaway. The cottage is fully self contained and set apart from the main house, modern, well appointed and filled with natural light. We are just 15 minutes from Daylesford and touring distance for all that the lovely central highlands can offer.

The space
' It was a blessing to escape the city to a true sanctuary, which delivered both peace and tranquility; a refuge for the soul. The photos, as beautiful as they are, didn't do justice to the wonderful style and grace of the cottage - not to mention its breathtaking views. The attention to detail applied from décor to the delicious samples of local produce made us feel very special indeed. The animals living at the estate were charismatic and endearing, we loved them! The whole experience lifted our spirits immensely. ' Bernard March 2020

You have arrived....a deep veranda overlooking our creek, a lovely dam, and the native forest is the just the spot to enjoy a glass of local wine and watch the sun set, while the kangaroos come out to graze.

Filled with light, the cottage has views from all rooms, and is beautifully styled. With fresh flowers from our garden and wonderful clean air, this is the perfect space to stay in and unwind or return to after a day exploring.

The cottage is fully insulated , with a wood burner (with firewood provided), split system heating and air conditioning in living and sleeping areas, overhead fans and internal and external blinds.

We provide for a light breakfast for your first morning and the kitchen is fully equipped, including a barista level coffee machine, and provisions.

Bring your bikes to ride out on the quiet local roads, enjoy a walk on the property or make up a picnic to have in the 60 acres of forest. There is even a picnic basket for you to use.

After a relaxing day, the exceptionally comfortable king size bed, made up with luxury bedding, beckons!

We love where we live!

We are close to many beautiful areas to explore, while being secluded. On clear nights the stars are intense. We can see the skies all around, the mountains and hills, the forests and waterways.

Nearby is a local, family run winery and organic vegetable farm and a fantastic local pub.

Daylesford and the surrounding hamlets offer a vast array of restaurants, cafes, galleries, local artisans, spa treatments, markets, festivals and events most weekends. There are lovely lakes and gardens to visit, walking trails, cycle rides, wineries to visit as well as a local cidery!

Within close touring distance is Castlemaine, Maldon, Woodend, Macedon, Trentham, and Ballarat, all offering so much to see and do you will have trouble choosing.

Or you can stay at home and take in the peace and beauty here.

A dream came true the day we settled on this 300 acre property. Eastern Hill is part of the of the rich lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung tribes. Later our property was the Eastern Hill section of the Smeaton run of Captain Hepburn, the original European settler.

The land is a beautiful combination of grasslands, rocky outcrops and forest, together with a creek and an abundance of wild life.

We grow olives, and run a registered animal rescue. At any time there are over one hundred rescue animals in our care. Our motto is kindness to all living things.

We garden, love books, relaxing in front of an open fire watching a DVD, and enjoy good local organic food and wine.
