River Oaks is a 220-acre estate on the Courtois River in the heart of the Mark Twain National Forest. The spacious, elegant lodge is ideal for family and friend reunions or small retreats. Guests can float the crystal clear Courtois, hike the Ozark Trail, or relax on the 30-foot porch overlooking the river valley. River Oaks has a well-stocked lake and is surrounded by great fishing streams. Ten minutes from two major floating outfitters. Bring your camera! We've had guests from 15 countries.
The lodge comfortably sleeps up to 16 guests. Graciously appointed and with many comforts, the lodge is still a welcoming place for families, with plenty of room inside and out for children to play and explore. Relax and entertain in the 30x30-foot Great Room with a massive 20-foot fireplace and hearth, piano, HDTV, stereo, DVD player, game table and wet bar. Step onto the furnished 30-foot front porch and have your morning coffee while enjoying a panoramic view of the Courtois River Valley and ridges beyond. Watch the ranch horses graze and wildlife roam. Stroll down to the lake and fish for crappie, bluegill, bass or catfish. Take a float on the crystal clear Courtois and then relax on our gravel bar beach, a great way to cool down on a hot summer day. Gather around a roaring campfire at night and be amazed by the sheer number of stars in the big Missouri sky.
The gourmet kitchen features two separate cooking stations, one with griddle and grill. The kitchen is fully equipped to prepare elaborate cuisine or simple country fare. Entertain in whatever style you desire, with a 10-foot dining room table which seats 12 and another table nearby that seats 6.
The bedrooms are decorated with a French Country flair and have ample closet and chest space as well as a comfortable chair for reading. The master suite is a retreat in itself; complete with a private bath, 2 bedrooms, sitting areas and library. There are a total of three bathrooms.
Guests will have access to the entire lodge, including the basement (with laundry facilities). We do lock the pantry in the kitchen and several closets.

River Oaks has been part of our family since 1981, and Melissa and I began welcoming guests to the estate in 2006. With friends and family over the years we have floated the Huzzah, Courtois and Meramec and ridden and hiked our trails as well as the Ozark Trail. We have hosted a “mega event” on our property for a group of more than 150 Ozark Trail Association volunteer trail builders, and we do regular trail maintenance on the Courtois section of the Ozark Trail outside our gate.
The estate is surrounded by some of the best fishing streams in Missouri, and the pond on our property is well stocked with bluegill, bass, catfish, and crappie. Around the lodge is a magical place to be on a spring, summer, or fall evening. You can go down to the pond to fish, go out back to sit around a fire in the cedar grove, or relax on the front porch with a drink and watch the sun set over the Courtois valley. I have spent memorable evenings at River Oaks with friends and family for more than 30 years. They never get old.
