Kick back on the verandah for stunning bird's-eye city views. This 110-year-old heritage-listed Queenslander boasts unique features like paneling, ornate ceilings, and antique furniture abound, mixed in with contemporary appliances. Bright, woven rugs on stripped wood floors complete the vintage look. Located in one of Brisbane's most family-friendly suburbs with public transport, parks, and restaurants only a short walk away.

From February 2024, we will be hosting long-term stays only.

The space
Our place is located high on a hill with a lovely north/south outlook - cool in summer and warm in winter. There's a comfy couch, smart TV, Sheridan sheets, an assortment of pillows, plush towels, a coffee machine, a washing machine, and a dryer.

Auchenflower is only 2.5km from the CBD and buses, trains and walkways are close by. Cafes, shops, supermarkets, parks, Suncorp Stadium, and the Wesley Hospital are also within walking distance. Milton State School is a 150m walk away at the bottom of the street.

There is a queen size bed in the main bedroom and king singles in the other two rooms. Every bedroom has a chest of drawers and a wardrobe with hangers, a fan, and bedside lights.

There is a large air conditioning unit in the living room only, not the bedrooms. If the house is shut up, this will cool the whole house down. There are ceiling fans in all bedrooms. Queenslanders are best when opened up to capture the breeze. It is an elevated house in a very safe area and we recommend sleeping with the windows opened.

A mattress can be provided for an extra cost of $25 if you would like to accommodate a third child. The maximum number of adults allowed in the house is strictly four. There are spare sheets and towels provided for each bed to accommodate longer stays.

We love dogs and they are welcome but please note the property is NOT fenced. We may charge extra for cleaning if the dog sheds.

Our home is in a quiet residential neighborhood and we live next door. We ask you to take it inside at 9 pm and if you are keen to party, this is not the place for you.

We ask you to leave the property as you found it, there is a dishwasher to make it easy. If you break anything, don't stress but please let us know.

There is plenty of onsite and on-the-street parking.

We have lived in the cottage for six months and know it has everything you need for a long-term stay. If something is missing, let us know. We live next door.

Guest access
You will have the whole house and yard to yourself for your stay. We expect you to settle in a relax and to treat it as your home away from home.

The driveway entrance is from number 47 Thomas Street (our residence) - from here you can go right up to the back door. To get out reverse down to the front lawn and turn around. There is heaps of parking on the street if you would prefer to park there.

Other things to note
This house is over 100 years old and is heritage protected. It is a Queenslander worker's cottage and this area used to be farming land. When we renovated we reused nearly all of the existing furniture and added a new bathroom and kitchen.

If you would like to see how it used to look, the guest manual includes "before" photos.

My work: Retired
I'm married to a soul surfer, have three gorgeous children and a very handsome Jack Russell dog. I live in one of the best neighbourhoods in Brisbane and holiday at a relaxed seaside town in Northern NSW. Thomas Street Cottage is next door to our family home in Brisbane and we sometimes make our holiday house in Kingscliff available to Airbnb guests. Before I had children, I used to spend at least three months traveling for work staying in hotels. I would have loved to have had an Airbnb option. To me, it's important to be able to walk to get a meal, watch a movie, sleep in a good comfy bed with nice linen and make a great cup of coffee the next morning. Both places are set up like a home away from home and are places to relax.
