Welcome to my delightful and spacious 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom underground home which is located in a safe, quiet area of town. Clean and comfy, it offers a lovely feel and atmosphere of home. This dugout is suitable for everyone including singles, couples & families. Children very welcome. All the facilities of home: linen, laundry, complete kitchen, even a coffee pod machine for the perfect wake up. It also a BBQ, a carport and plenty of room for parking. Located next door to Di's Place, sleeps 9

The space
You will enjoy this delightful dugout. It offers all the comforts and facilities of home including linen, laundry and cooking facilities. With the kitchen and 2nd bedroom set along the front of the cut, it offers lots of light into the place, and the living and bedroom areas are quite large giving the dugout a nice airy feel. Although dugouts are renowned for keeping a constant temperature of between 18 - 25 degrees Celsius, they can vary after long stints of hot or cold weather, therefore I have installed a split system air conditioner ensuring your complete comfort for the duration of your stay whether it be summer or winter. For larger groups Di's Place is situated next door which sleeps 9.

Guest access
This dugout is rented as a whole home, therefore you do not need to share bathrooms or kitchen facilities with complete strangers, and the location of the place is about 2.5 km north of town in a quiet, safe area. You will feel secure, safe and at home.

Location

Coober Pedy, South Australia, Australia

We love out town. It is unique and the people who live here are friendly and always up for a chat and happy to help. The town itself is steeped in history of opal mining and outback. The desert views and night skies are like nothing you have ever seen before.
As opal capital of the world it hosts beautiful shops and, if you happen to be looking for that fabulous and personable gemstone, you will find it here at a much more affordable price than the city.
The tourism here offers great tours including the opal fields and outback, as well as our renowned mail run which takes you to the outback stations and shows you how vast our country really is. (Note: The mail run needs to be booked in advance, few seats are available).
Other attractions include several underground churches, the award winning Old Timers Mine, Toms Working Mine, Fays Underground home, the break-a-ways; and the longest fence in the world, the famous Dog Fence, wraps around Coober Pedy, approximately 40km north and 30km south.
As a multicultural town with approximately 45 different nationalities living here we have several clubs including the Italo-Australian Miners Club, the Serbian club, Greek Club and Croatian Club. Most don't open every night so best call for opening times.
Restaurants include The Desert Cave for fine dining, Johns Pizza Bar for lunch and tea, The Outback bar and grill , The Serbian Club on a Friday evening, The Italian Club Thursday and Friday nights, a Chinese Restaurant, RSL Sunday evenings, renowned Stuart Range Pizzas, and more.
Coober Pedy Races are on each August and we also hold an annual Opal Festival: to find out dates check Coober Pedy website.
Our neighbouring towns of Oodnadatta and William Creek host race and gymkhana weekends each year as well as the annual Australian Bronco branding championships. Call Coober Pedy Info Centre located at our Council office or check the Coober Pedy website for dates.

My name is Di, your host, and the owner of these lovely dugouts Coober Pedy has been my main residence for 24 years, moving here from Mackay Qld with my husband and our 5 children in 1995 to opal mine, which we did, until my husband passed away suddenly about 18 months after moving here. I have continued to opal mine part time on and off over the last 24 years. My occupation (from the age of 26) had always been hospitality and working with people. My passion and hobby in life is renovating. I purchased my dugouts in March 1997, 3 months after my husband died, making "Di's Place” our family home. Over the last 23 yrs ,with the help of my lovely family and some amazing friends, I have spent many hours continuing to improve the dugout while taking care not to lose the wonderful atmosphere created, and the work done, by the original owner Cobra. In April 2017 I finally opened my 2 lovely dugouts up as accommodation to share with people from around Australia and the World.
