One of six vacation rentals at the sprawling Jardin del Mar estate, Casa Serena is located on the ground floor with pool and ocean views. Serena comes complete with a king bed, spacious bathroom with double sinks, a fully-equipped kitchen, comfortable seating areas, outdoor dining and sweeping views of the bay.

The space

Jardin del Mar was created by a retired American couple who lived here for 20 years before moving back to the states to be closer to family. They purchased the beachfront property in the 90s and it was nothing but a patch of dirt at the time. They built their dream retirement home and then, with their large extended family in mind, they kept adding more and more "Casas" to house visitors, until they realized they had accidentally built a charming boutique hotel.

The six Casas each sleep between 2-4 people and they all have a kitchen so we rent them out individually as well as rent out the entire Estate to large groups. So, whether there are 2 or 20 people in your group, we can accommodate you! (You can view the individual listings under our profile.)

Jardin is authentically and beautifully Mexican... full of mosaics, tiles and stunning historical artifacts from all across the country. It truly is an "experience" and not just a beach house... You have to see it to believe it!

Guest access

All guests have access to: Private beach access, outdoor shower, lounge chairs and umbrellas, pool and toys, large barbecue area/entertaining space, sea kayaks, rooftop terrace, hammock porch, secure parking, all courtyards and gardens, etc.

Also included throughout your stay: Complimentary purified water, coffee, non-dairy creamer, sugar, cooking oil, salt and pepper, paper products, etc.

We also provide housekeeping on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Interaction with guests

My wife and I live onsite (in a separate house at the rear of the property)... We mostly stay indoors and keep to ourselves, but we're always available to call you a taxi, give tips and directions, help with the language, recommend restaurants, outings, etc. We're really laid back and just want you to enjoy yourselves.

Other things to note

None of the Casas at Jardin del Mar have TVs, but the WiFi works well throughout the property.

Although we are directly on the beach, it's not a great beach for swimming because it starts to get rocky about 20 feet from our sea wall, but you can walk 10 minutes towards either La Cruz or Bucerias to find sandier beaches. (Our favorite swimming beach is called Destiladeras and it's about a 10-15 minute drive from Jardin and we have beach equipment you can borrow.)

The Banderas Bay is not known for snorkeling or diving either. You'll have to do a boating excursion out to the Marietas Islands or hire a water taxi out of Punta de Mita if you want to snorkel. Also, the nearest surfing beaches are in Punta de Mita or Sayulita - each about a 20 minute car ride from here.

Breathtaking. The first words that came to mind when we walked into the property. The place is exactly as described, yet more vibrant in person. The property is like a lush garden and the buildings are all different and full of character. We loved the place, and the managers, Ty and Alissa! They were amazing from the start. I had some pretty specific things that I wanted in the place I was going to book and Alissa was so helpful in finding a unit that was perfect for us! It wasn't even listed at the time but after chatting with her about wanting a/c, a fridge and a ground floor unit, she told me about one that wasn't even listed yet and she listed it for me so I could book it. Alissa really went above and beyond! From the first email to the minute we left the property to go home, they were always there to immediately answer any questions and help when needed. We got in late and only grabbed a couple groceries on the way, so they even invited us out to tacos our first night! We arrived to fresh squeezed oj, freshly made guac, a couple beers and clean drinking water in our fridge and chips on our counter. There were iodine drops in the kitchen in case you wanted to wash any fruits or vegetables. Although we didn't use them and didn't have any problems, I think it's very nice to have if you want to. The unit itself was very clean and so cute! It was perfect with a good sized bathroom, a good sized living/bed area, a king bed and a kitchen! There was even a little patio area outside of our unit that we had all to ourselves. The kitchen had basics like paper towels/coffee/oil/salt & pepper/etc and the bathroom had soap and the softest towels! Everywhere we looked we would see amazing little details from when the owner built the place and if we ever asked Alissa about the place she would tell us where things were from or how the owner built it and she would say everything with such a sense of pride, which I just loved. It just shows that they are not there to simply "manage" and they actually take a pride in ownership, which you don't come across in rentals in Mexico too often. The property was a great location for us. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta, so it was very quiet and peaceful, yet close enough to visit for the day and close enough to go to other destinations such as Sayulita for the day. It's right in the middle really, about 20-30 mins either way to PV or Sayulita if I remember right. We would lay in bed at night and fall asleep to the sound of the waves, no loud music or party noise just occasional fireworks, which was exactly what we were looking for. There were...

Ty and his wife were very responsive and communicative before and during our stay. They had great advice on local activities (go to Punta de Mita for snorkeling and whale watching). We arrived to find four beers, home made guacamole and salsa, and some of the best tostada chips I've ever had. Not only was the location perfect for the quiet getaway, but it had all these lovely nooks and crannies to check out. There's a huge grill and kitchen on the 2nd and 3rd floors outside so you can cook while enjoying the views and weather. Highly suggest this location for couples looking to escape to paradise. Can't recommend the hosts and location enough! 5/5 stars.

About us: My wife and I (a couple 30-somethings) decided that life is too short to waste it in rainy traffic, and working 60 hours per week, so we sold off our house, cars, and 95% of our possessions...bought a mini van, packed up our pup and drove 2,800 miles from Seattle to La Cruz, Nayarit in May of 2016 (after vacationing here several years in a row and falling in love with the area.) Best decisions of our lives! We now manage the Jardin del Mar Estate and live onsite full-time with our labradoodle, Bloo.

(For other hosts: As property managers who run a 6-unit hotel, we know what being a respectful guest means and we'll always treat your home like we would our own. We're laid back, friendly, tidy and low-maintenance.)
