This 2 bed apartment is part of the mill where we live but has a separate entrance. It sits above our private canal, giving wonderful views. It comprises one double and one twin bedroom, shower room, extra WC, kitchen /diner and sitting room.
On site is a 8m X 4m pool, a private canal side walk and large gardens for the use of guests.

The space

My place is great for families with older kids but because it's a mill there's access to a lot of water so we don't recommend it for young children and non swimmers. People with disability would have trouble with the steps (but see our other 4 person apartment). Larger parties can rent both apartments. Sorry, no pets.

Guest access

Swimming pool (shared)
Gardens with seating
Small patio area with table and chairs
Canal side walk
Canoeing on the canal
Bikes are available (let us know requirements in advance)

Interaction with guests

We live on the site and are available for help with any problems.

Other things to note

There is no phone in the apartment but there is wifi.
In emergencies, guests can use our phone.

From the moment we arrived at the Old Mill, nothing was too much trouble for Jill and Tom. We arrived on Sunday with a car that had got engine trouble and not only did Tom take us to the garage to get it sorted (twice!) and again when it was time to fetch it, he also showed us the way to the supermarket in Riberac so we could get some shopping. We also had some groceries supplied by Jill in the apartment (milk, tea bags, coffee, cereal, some vegetables, bread, butter, jam etc) which were very welcome as we arrived late on a Sunday when everything was closed! The apartment is beautiful. The lounge is tastefully decorated in blues with a very well equipped kitchen/diner to the side. The bedrooms were gorgeous and had lots of storage space in sold wood wardrobes and drawers supplied. The stairs to and from the apartment are slightly off kilter, but this just adds to the charm of the building. The pool is a few metres away from the bottom of the stairs, across an old bridge and some lawn. Pool towels were supplied for the duration of our stay. The pool was cleaned every morning by Tom and although a little chilly to start with, was a welcome break when it got very hot! The surrounding land which is available to you as guests is phenomenal. The canal side walk to the weir is spectacular and there are also canoes and a boat available to you, should you wish to make the journey this way! All in all, this is a wonderful apartment in a beautiful part of the country. A car is essential, but there are plenty of places to visit within a short distance. Aubeterre Sur Dronne is particularly beautiful and has swimming on the river, with a beach as an additional bonus! St Aulaye is also a lovely place to visit. In the local village, Bernadette's Bar is a few minutes away if you want a walk, however, she does close around 8.30 pm! We had a fantastic 12 days in the Old Mill and would highly recommend it.

This Airbnb is even better than the photos. It's a peaceful rural environment but offers activities to keep you entertained, canoeing, rowing, cycling and swimming. Gill and Tom were fantastic hosts, welcoming us warmly and providing a delicious welcome pack of food. We would definitely recommend this property to others.
