Whether you're traveling to the quaint small town of Hamilton ("Quilt Town, USA") to visit the Missouri Star Quilt Company, or for another reason, we would love for you to stay with us. We're about 30 miles from Jamesport, an Amish community, and 60 miles from Kansas City. You’ll love our place because of the peace and quiet, yet close proximity to Hamilton and surrounding towns. Our farmhouse is on 40 acres of gently-rolling hills, with a beautiful 5-acre pond and a treed property line.
Our spacious guest room was recently redecorated. Fresh paint on walls and trim, new bedding, decor, etc., will ensure a comfortable, restful stay. The bathroom has a new shower and paint, and soon the landing will have a cozy reading chair and extra seating, allowing people traveling together to find their own space. These are the only finished spaces on the second floor of our home, and you'll need to climb a full flight of stairs to get there.
This is the perfect place to unplug and unwind. The guest room is stocked with a selection of books, games, jigsaw puzzles, and even an adult coloring book and markers! Wi-Fi is available, but slow, and there is no TV in the room.
The queen bed is a Select Comfort (now called Sleep Number), and is adjustable on both sides to individual preferences. You can make one side of the bed firm and the other soft, if needed. The twin bed is from Ikea, and is somewhat firm. Because I am picky about pillows, we offer a variety for you to choose from. They all have allergen covers which will be washed frequently. Even the removable covers on the decorator pillows will be washed frequently for your protection.
We have a single-serve coffee maker (not the pod kind), along with hot chocolate mix, a few tea bags, and some bite-sized candies ready for you. I'll be happy to provide your choice of breakfast food and beverage, too, as long as it doesn't require me to cook. (You wouldn't like that!)
You're welcome to our kitchen and living room - where we do have a TV and DVD/internet player. During nice weather, you might enjoy getting out into nature - watching for deer and other wildlife - or fishing from the pond bank. Down by the pond is a covered shelter area with a porch swing under cover, and a fire pit nearby.
Interaction with guests
I'll welcome you and show you around, answer any questions, etc. I will probably be home during your entire stay, but generally spend quite a bit of time in my home office. I'll be accessible, but not underfoot.
Other things to note
This is an old farmhouse - it's not fancy or upscale, and neither are we. There's never enough time in our day to get all the mowing, cleaning, and repair projects done, so you won't see a showplace or perfection (though we try very hard in the guest space!) We're very down to earth, and you'll be treated like family, regardless of how long you're here. Our goal is that all who enter as strangers will leave as friends.
Because our guest space is in a finished attic, the only window in the room is up high, in a dormer. During warm months, it has an A/C unit in place, so it cannot be used for fresh air. We hope to tap into unused attic space adjacent to the room, and add a door and small deck for fresh air and a view of the property. In the meantime, there is no view from the room. Guests have commented on this, so it bears mentioning.
When you stay with us, you're welcome to just use our home as a place to lay your head for the night... or to hang with us, if you'll be here for a while. One guest shared his dinner from home with us, though we sure didn't expect it! If you have an interest in shooting sports, and hubby is available, he'll be happy to spend time with you on our gun range.
We do not have pets now, but did have two cats until last year. The carpets have been shampooed since then, and the bedding is all new, but I wanted to mention it, in case you have severe allergies.
- This space is the only finished space on our second floor. You'll have it to yourself, but will need to climb a full flight of stairs to get there.
My husband and I live on 40 acres, and we love country life! We own a couple of small businesses (one is just a hobby business), and have both young grandchildren and aging parents, so we also know what it's like to be busy and stressed out.
Hubby loves to shoot and do just about anything he can come up with outdoors. I also enjoy being outdoors (love my flower beds), but hate bug bites, so I spend more of my time inside. Reading and making jewelry are my two favorite "non-work" activities. We are also both involved in our church.
We are somewhat introverted, so we will most likely keep to ourselves most of the time. We aren't antisocial, though! :-)
