The Hayloft is an attractive apartment in an old stone barn with a pretty patio and use of a gym area. It's in a peaceful position within Herefordshire but virtually on the Welsh border, and ideal for couples, solo travellers, and walkers.
The apartment and the many footpaths leading direct from the property offer superb views of our outstanding, wild countryside. Access to the famous Offa's Dyke Path is just down the hill. Hay, town of books, is close and ideal for an afternoon's browsing.
You'll be staying in a quaint but well-modernised and warm stone-built barn. The upstairs apartment used to be the household groom's quarters and the hayloft, while downstairs accommodated the pony and trap.
Today the ground floor contains a small gym, a storecupboard, and a seating area with plenty of local brochures, guidebooks and maps to look at.
While you are staying you have sole use of the downstairs area and the terrace, where there is a table and chairs and also an outdoor light.
The apartment is in a very peaceful position in a hamlet off a small lane on the Wales/Herefordshire border. We have lived in the Victorian house across the courtyard for over 30 years and converted the barn a few years ago, then refurbished it completely early in 2017.
There is polished oak flooring throughout the apartment, which has a nice kitchen with plenty of equipment. The bedroom has a good view across to Hay Bluff, and a kingsize bed. The dressing table, with removable mirror, doubles as a desk.
The 'fibre optic to the home' broadband has speeds of around 50kbps.
There is a comprehensive information brochure about the property, the area and amenities.
There are basic items such as bread, tea bags, instant and ground coffee, sugar, milk, orange juice and biscuits for you (included in the price of the apartment).
You will be able to park in our driveway from where it is a few metres to the door to the barn. For coming and going when it's dark, the entrance is lit by a motion-activated automatic light. You step into the downstairs gym/seating area where you can also store bulky coats, boots, etc. and which provides the patio access. There is a further door and ten wide stairs to the apartment.
Cyclists could leave their bikes inside downstairs to keep them dry and safe.
Other things to note
The Hayloft apartment is near our large vegetable garden and your patio area borders on to a larger flagstoned area which we use to reach the orchard, so occasionally if you are in between about 10am and teatime, you may catch a glimpse of a human, but we are very quiet!
If you have an infant (under 1 year) not yet walking I would be happy for you to bring the infant along, with your own cot.
Please turn music/TV etc down low after 11pm and before 7a.m.
