Fabulous Cortijo with private swimming pool. Tranquil location with stunning views yet less than 10 minutes walk to bars and restaurants.

The space

Set in a horseshoe shaped valley below the village of Válor, Las Cañadas is a three bedroomed cortijo with private pool, lounge, dining room and two terraces within it's own spacious grounds.
This traditionally built house remains cool and airy throughout the summer although wood is provided for the open fire for those booking later in the season who may experience cooler evenings.

The solid wood kitchen is full of character and offers ample storage. It is well equipped with pots, pans and everything else you require to cater for yourselves including an electric juicer so you can make the most of the plentiful oranges (in season). The adjacent dining room has french windows onto the terrace and farmhouse style furniture.
The spacious living room with french windows leading onto the terrace also has three further large windows making it an extremely light and airy space. The built in shelves are stocked with books for you to browse, dvds and a selection of games. An ipod dock is also provided and there is wifi available throughout the house.

On the first floor is the exceptionally large master bedroom with super king sized bed and adjacent sitting area complete with comfortable sofa. This room opens onto a vine covered pergola offering direct access to the pool and also has air conditioning.
The large family bathroom opposite offers bath with a shower over, washbasin, wc and bidet with morrocan style cupboards for towels.

The top floor is approached via an idyllic shaded terrace with cane suite and fabulous views. Stable style doors lead to an attractive double room and a dual aspect twin, each of which has their own separate entrance from the terrace. Also on this level is the second bathroom with shower, wash basin and wc.

The ground floor terrace has dappled shade from the well established vines and offers an outdoor dining area for 6 people with gas barbeque. The perfect place to absorb the stunning views whilst relaxing in a peace and tranquillity which has to be experienced to be believed.

Guest access

The whole property is for your own private use during your stay.

Interaction with guests

I will meet you on arrival then leave you in peace. However, as I live only a couple of kilometers away I'm always available to answer any questions or assist with any problems and maybe I'll bump in to you in one of the village bars and we can enjoy a drink and a tapas together.

Other things to note

The cortijo is approached by a track which can be slightly bumpy in places so we do recommend a car with good ground clearance such as a Renault Kangoo or similar.

A stunning home in a beautiful part of the world. Completely private and yet just a short walk to town. Everything was perfect from having breakfast or beers under one of the two pergolas, having a barbeque lunch, lying by and cooling off in the pool and enjoying the views and a glass of wine at sunset from the terrace. Ginny and Terry are wonderful generous and gregarious hosts and I cannot wait to return.

We had a great week's stay here. The house is so well-equipped that even with two days of bad weather we still had a great time just relaxing indoors. The master bedroom was lovely to stay in with a super comfortable bed, and our kids loved the two bedrooms on the upper floor. We made good use of the lovely pool and ate a lot of the grapes, pomegranates, figs etc that are in abundance on the property. When looking out from the various terraces at the incredible view you really feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, and yet it's a 2 minute drive to the small town which made it perfect for picking up provisions. We also made various day trips (Trevelez for jamon, the beach at Almeria etc) so there's plenty to do. We've come back from our week here feeling completely relaxed and refreshed. Thank you!

Very nice house lost in the mountain, but still very close to the village of Valor (15 min walking). The house is very well decorated inside (must be great in winter with such a fireplace!) and outside the views from the house are superb. There are 3 terraces you can enjoy. Weather is of course hot in august but the nights are OK. The pool is cool in the morning and gets warm in the afternoon. It is nice with good shade points to have some rest. We really enjoyed picking many fruits in the property (figs, grapes, almonds...), it was really a plus comparing to other houses we went to. I will finish thanking Ginny and Terry who have been both very kind (we didn't have any problem in these 12 days but I' sure they would have fix them very quickly)

Very nice place to stay. I recommend evertbody to come here.

A lovely place on a hillside overlooking the valley/surrounding area. Nice pool, 2 terraces with overhanging grapes where you can enjoy your dinner / drinks or just read a book beside the pool. Nice spot on the roof where you even have a better view. Communication with the host is good and they help you out when there is a problem. Short drive or walk to the small village of valor which has a few restaurants / bars. Would love to come back.

The house is beautiful, well kept and the views are amazing. We went as a couple but it could easily house a family. The welcome gifts of eggs, cheese, wine and olive oil were lovely. I gave 4 stars because on our second night we were disturbed by a repeated bang at our bedroom window after midnight. The two women who were looking after the property while Ginny was away went above and beyond to make us feel safe - travelling for half an hour to reach us, searching the area and staying with us at our request - we honestly can't thank them enough. We decided to leave the next day, two days early, because the noise was unexplained and we remained scared. While Ginny was very kind and offered help to find us another place to stay, we would have appreciated the offer of a refund for at least one of the nights we didn't stay - as we had to find alternative accommodation for the rest of our holiday.

Response from Ginny:
I'm so sorry that Lia had an unexplained noise at the window during her stay and regret that she felt the need to cut short her stay. In the eleven years we've lived here I can count the number of crimes on one hand (literally!) so know that the area is very safe. We returned home on the day that Lia left and explained to her that we live less than 10 minutes walk from the property so would be immediately available should there be any repeat occurrence of the unexplained noise. With no fingerprints or smears on the (very clean) window the only explanation I can come up with is a gecko fight between the window and shutter, causing the shutter to bang against the window, I really can think of no other explanation. The people visiting previously and during the following week experienced no problems. Had there been a problem with the house or facilities I would of course have offered a refund but in this case did not believe that it was justified.

I've been living in Valor with my husband and dogs for the last eight years and just love the place! Whilst I'll always leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday I'm also available 24 hours a day to help with any problems or simply reccommend a local restaurant.
