The space
This rustic 1920's cottage , provides old world charm but with all the modern conveniences - Split system air conditioning; fully automatic w/machine, clothes dryer. Beds are fitted with electric blankets for extra warmth on chilly nights. There is a shower and toilet next to the main bedroom, and a bath located off the back deck of the house - handy after a day at the beach- with adjoining laundry. Unfortunately due to steps, narrow entrances and uneven ground, this house is not suitable for wheelchairs, or guests who are unsteady on their feet. The cottage is best suited for 6 guests, but can accommodate 8. A portacot is also available. Linen and towels are all provided. Tea and coffee are provided, plus salt, pepper, cooking oil, utensils, bowls, chopping board, frypan, wok and saucepans for you to cook up whatever you like. The small enclosed back and front yards are suitable for up to two small pets or one large dog. Note that this is only a cottage, the building being close to 100 years old, so there will be aspects that are less than perfect; regardless it is still a clean and comfortable home lovingly cared for and decorated by Kate of Apostle Coast Holidays. It is Kate who makes the home clean and welcoming for you.

Guest access
Unfortunately due to uneven ground in some areas, steps and narrow entrances, this property is not suitable for wheelchairs, or guests who are unsteady on their feet. Guests have access to the whole property, but bedrooms not required may be locked. There is free parking diagonal to the house for extra cars. There is all day free parking in front of the house, but please leave the spaces near the businesses next door free as they have regular deliveries. The front entrance is at the power meter alcove. The front entrance door is weather damaged, but CAN BE EXITED IN AN EMERGENCY only.

Other things to note
Please note that the Timboon supermarket closes at 6pm weekends and public holidays; week day closing is 8pm. The Fat Cow restaurant just around the corner from the cottage is open for breakfast and lunch most weekdays, but not weekends or public holidays. The Distillery opens a little later in the mornings most days, but is rarely open for dinner. The Corner Store, next door to the cottage, is open until 5.30 weekdays, and approx 2 pm on Saturdays. The Timboon Cheesery just off the Timboon/ Peterborough Rd, is open 11am-4pm daily, sometimes longer in summer. There are other cafes in Timboon, plus the Timboon Hotel, that serve locally produced and prepared meals and cakes etc. There are also beach side cafes/bars/restaurants in Port Campbell that provide breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Please note that check out time is strictly 10am, and guests may be charged for late stays as cleaners still need to be paid for the time they are unable to access the property.
Timboon is approx a 30min drive from the 12 Apostles, including other features like the Loch Ard Gorge, and many trails and viewing platforms to visit along the way, so allow a couple of hours to explore the Port Campbell National Park . There is a swimming and surfing beach at Port Campbell monitored by life guards, and another couple of beaches at Peterborough approx 20 mins drive, but these are not monitored. Timboon is a "plastic bag free" town, so you will need to supply your own bags for shopping. Details regarding bike hire, google bike hire timboon.
Please note that check out time is strictly 10am, and a fee may be charged for late stayers because cleaners still need to be paid for the time they are unable to access a property due to guests staying late .

Location

Timboon, Victoria, Australia

Only 17 minutes drive from the nearest beach, and 30 minutes from the 12 Apostles. You will be in the midst of a busy little town by day, but in the property you will hardly notice . During the night, you might occasionally hear the comical grunting noise of a koala in the trees opposite the cottage. Apart from shops operating during the day, there are no immediate neighbours, so total privacy is yours, but respect for the neighborhood in general by keeping noise levels down, needs to be considered. During the summer months, the pool, literally just across the main street, is open for your enjoyment. Sometimes a bush walk on the trail past the swimming pool may reward you with a koala sighting in the tree tops. You can enjoy a hearty evening meal at the Timboon Hotel up to approx 7pm, a few minutes walk from Leura Mist cottage, or drive 15 minutes to Port Campbell for evening meals at one of several cafes or restaurants, or how about fish and chips on the beach or at the 12 Apostles, and watch the breathtaking sunset! Enjoy a meal at the busy 12 Rocks restaurant that virtually overlooks the Pt Campbell foreshore, then take in the views from the Great Ocean Road from there to Peterborough. A 25 minute drive from Timboon through bushland and farms will also take you to beautiful Peterborough beach for a swim or a long beach stroll with your dog, and the Timboon Cheesery is just off this road, so enjoy some cheese tasting or a devonshire tea on the way. Explore the trail to spectacular Bay of Islands, and learn about the ship that came to grief here, as well as the cruel and tragic retribution carried out by some of our early settlers on aboriginal tribes. Take a dip or a walk at the beautiful secluded Worm Bay beach. Enjoy breathtaking views from the great ocean road. Pick a pile of strawberries at Timboon Berry World, or take a picnic on a bush walk or bike ride (bike hire available) for miles along the rail trail,(past the Distillery ) and possibly see a kanga, koala or wallaby on the way, (dogs must be leashed) then refresh with a delicious Timboon ice cream on return, or homemade cake, pastries and coffee. Witness cows being milked at Apostle Whey Cheese farm, and learn the process of cheese making. Exploration is endless from the misty volcanic plains, to the views from the botanical gardens and Mt Leura in Camperdown ; on the way do some fishing for trout and salmon at Lake Bullen Merri, 35 mins from Timboon, also great for yachting, water skiing or swimming; inland salt lakes to the beautiful Otway Ranges along the Great Ocean Road, and inland to the FLY treetop walk. Scenery as diverse as spectacular for miles around. Timboon is rich in history from aboriginal occupation to outlaws bootlegging whiskey!
