In the heart of this beautiful town on the Charente River, our house on the riverside in Saint Savinien radiates light and calm, while at the same time being technologically well-equipped and right in the centre of town, with all the amenities and facilities you'll need. New for 2019: 6-person spa in the back garden! The space
Light, bright, tranquility, birdsong: these are the words that come to mind for our holiday home in Saint Savinien. Views of the Charente River from bed, listening to ducks swimming by - lots of space - seeing the distinctive rock face at the back of the garden. The house is filled with a carefully chosen collection of vintage and modern pieces sourced from charity shops and eBay and Emmaus, with high-speed WiFi and all entertainment requirements. Traditional record player alongside a DAB radio and a sound bar for the HDTV which also has Chromecast capacity - it's a special mix. New for 2019 - 6-person spa in the back garden, heated year-round. Proper hydrotherapy, not just bubbles, adding to the magic of this haven.

Guest access
Access is allowed to all areas of the house except for the loft space which is used for storage.

Other things to note
Smoking not permitted in the house however it's fine in the back garden, as long as all cigarette ends are disposed of appropriately. There isn't air conditioning, but there are plenty of fans to keep everyone cool at night, if and when needed! Saint-Savinien, Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes, France

Saint Savinien is small, but perfectly formed, we think. You can walk all the way across town in less than an hour; there are views along the river that are amazing, as well as far-reaching views from the church at the top of the hill. The approach to the church, heading up the hill, is all charming alleyways, lovely staircases, small spots of interest here and there. The house is situated right on the river so, when you're looking out from either the front or back of the house, you feel quite private and secluded - like you're in the countryside, rather than just a few steps away from the town square. Three boulangeries in town, two butchers/charcuterie shops, two Tabac / newsagents, a few restaurants, the butcher's is also a traiteur, selling takeaway food that is gorgeous. The market on Saturdays is amazing and features seasonal produce and flowers, as well as fresh fish, meats and cheeses. Art galleries, book shop, sweet shop; hairdressers, library. The Cinema Florida, just along our road, is what originally attracted us to Saint Savinien - it features all sorts of films, from big blockbusters to art house films, usually in their original language (with French subtitles) so if you're not fluent in French, you can still watch the latest Star Wars film in English, or whatever other native language the film was released in. There are always cultural events on - more in the summer than in the winter, but there are concerts and fairs held year round. There's a Wine Festival in August every year as well. We've visited in the dead of winter and found some lovely events happening but the town comes alive in the summer, when the Isle de Loisirs is fully operational - tennis, camping, open-air swimming pool complete with outdoor jacuzzi, the Port Miniature with its small boats that delight both adults and children - our 14-year-old son enjoyed riding in one of the boats with his dad and wasn't embarrassed, and that's saying something! The Super U supermarket nearby has absolutely everything you might need, and then some. It's near La Rochelle, which is one of our favourite places in the world, a bit further to Cognac and Bordeaux, in the middle of the countryside so great for walking and cycling. We wish we could spend more time here ourselves - we will do, eventually, but for now, we want to share this very special place with others.
