Welcome to the Mauser EcoHouse. A new and ongoing project by the Directors of the Mauser Harmony With Nature Foundation. Our 501(c)(3) tax exempt Foundation was incorporated in 1998 in memory of our mentor, Professor Ferdinand Mauser.
Our goal is to transform the EcoHouse into a center providing classes, retreats and seminars to students, professionals, interns and families focused on sustainable living, such as growing your own organic food, composting and purchasing eco friendly products.

The space

Since purchasing the 6,000 sq ft villa, which we call Mauser EcoHouse, in January 2016,
*five swales have been excavated and planted with herbs and vegetables *twenty trees, including banana, lemon, avocado, breadfruit and guanábana now live on our land
*herb garden plantings include: oregano, wild cilantra and stevia
All in our ongoing effort to make our little piece of land an organic food forest.

Hard work and vigilance has turned our dormant compost banana circle into a thriving microbial habitat.

With the help of our two interns, Melissa and Jenna we recently constructed *a 12ft high 30ft diameter greenhouse which houses our food triangle and new seedlings.

The Mauser EcoHouse is a work in progress.

We are motivated by our desire to be of service to our local community and in some small way, contribute to the greater good.

Your stay here will include:
*a tour of the property's sustainable features, including
*medicinal and tropical plants, by our on-site Foundation Director, Heather.

She is:
*fluent in English and Spanish
*is a Certified Massage Therapist
*worked as a Chinese Herbalist for 15 years
*is versed in Chinese medicine
You can avail yourself of her services for a nominal fee.

Your stay at the Mauser EcoHouse will assist us in accomplishing our goal of providing an educational hub for visitors to have hands-on experience about living in harmony with nature.

We look forward to meeting you.

Beautiful property, comfortable and clean - really relaxing stay. As far as education on ecology, sustainability and related topics - we found this to be lacking, which was disappointing considering the write up.

If you’re ever in Costa Rica and you can get to the Mauser EcoHouse, it will be worth for you to spend some time up there! Although I was only there for a short amount time, Heather was able to give me a a very informative tour of the property. I learned about the greenhouse, rooftop gardens, the garden tower, sustainability, recycling, and a lot more. She had me help dig out part of the compost circle (at my request) and get my hands dirty in the herb garden. I really love gardening so this was right up my alley. The house itself is beautiful. There’s plenty of space to relax and a huge wraparound porch for you take in all the amazing views. There’s even a Disc Golf Course! Heather was such a delight to be around, what a fantastic host! She made me dinner from the garden and then we took a little swim in the saltwater pool on the property. I had a wonderful time and I can’t wait to come back! I highly recommend anyone to go for a visit.

Our stay at the Mauser Ecohouse with Heather and Bill was phenomenal. The location deserves several days attention as there is much to do both on and around the property, but also could serve as an incredible base-camp to plan day adventures from along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica (we reached Manuel Antonio National Park in an hour). The house is over 6,000 square feet of beautiful and functional space and if you’re looking to make friends on your journey there’s a good chance you will meet some life-loving folks working or staying at the Ecohouse. The local terrain is fantastic, the wildlife plentiful, and the intentional use of the land for ecological yet modern living prompts much discussion if you’re in to aspects of sustainability. Oh, and we only had a few days and realized on our way out that there is an absolutely beautiful (and very romantic) saltwater pool accessible below the Mauser property (it’s part of the larger eco-village). We truly regret not taking advantage of this (look at the property photos!). If you’re into a community-centered stay in an absolutely beautiful spot with the potential for some shared meals and activities, this place is a spot you will want to return to (we do).

The property in which the Mauser EcoHouse is located in is beautiful. The house has comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms, saltwater pool, and hammocks which helped to completely relax and unwind. Heather, Melissa, and Jenna were great hosts that made my stay even better. It was great to learn about their project for sustainable living and permaculture. I definitely recommend this place.

We book with Airbnb often and while our accommodations are generally very nice, we typically have to find our own way into an empty property. The Mauser Eco House was not only beautiful inside and out, but also provided these weary travelers friendly conversation, a quiet place to rest, an exquisite bathroom and a healthy Breakfast. We left this morning feeling as though we had made our first friends in Costa Rica. Thank you Bill, Heather, Melissa and Jenna for a lovely experience!

Peaceful getaway. Only sounds you'll hear will be birds and the sea breeze.

The place was amazing. Lots of open space, fully equipped kitchen, and the salt water pool was a huge plus. The hosts let us pick whichever room we wanted, but you couldn't go wrong with them; they all had beautiful window views, spacious bathrooms, and big beds. There were also fresh vegetables and fruits on the property. The hosts were great too, highly recommend!
