Location

Castellammare del Golfo, Sicilia, Italy

Sicily - Castellammare del Golfo (TP) is set on a rocky strip that extends the sea gently shelving, nestling in a delightful bay at the center of the gulf. Its origin dates back to about 2500 years
ago when these waters were plowed by foreign ships that came to stock up on goods; Here was active the emporium of 'Elima city of Segesta, one of the most important maritime stations in Western Sicily. The Emporium Segestanorum survived the decline of Segesta, was active in Greek and Roman times and assumed it was subsequently also in the Arab domination era (which they named the site "Al Madarig" or "stairs") which warned l ' need to fortify it with a castle.
Built on a small promontory, now amalgamated in the picturesque fishermen's houses that formed the nucleus of today's Castellammare del Golfo, was built in the eleventh century, edited by Normans, Swabians, Angevins, destroyed by the Aragonese in 1316, rebuilt and renovated in the fortifications in the '400 and' 500.
