Outstanding hospitality
3 recent guests complimented Rachel for outstanding hospitality.
Our home is in an 80 acre wildlife sanctuary on the edge of the rainforest in the Byron hinterland. Wallabies graze the lawn and the bird & cicada chorus at dawn/dusk is just magical.
The house is a strawbale and stone building with a solar-heated plunge pool, outdoor bath & expansive views across the rainforest. The house has an open airy contemporary feel. There are no overlooking neighbours. Mostly staying here is about emersing yourself in nature...kicking back and tickling the silence.

The space
We spent 3 years slowly getting to know the site before building our dream home. Rachels business is in sustainable design, Campbell is an organic chef and gardener/farmer, so our home was always going to be built with care for the planet in mind.

Our home is a strawbale, stone and glass building, with solar (and mains) power, solar hotwater, a greywater reedbed, compost toilet, and 50,000 litres of roof catchment drinking water. A stunning solar heated plunge pool, and outdoor bathroom, expansive views across the rainforest. Eat from our plentiful vegetable garden and fruit orchards. Fresh eggs daily from our chooks.

The house has an open airy contemporary design feel, and there are no overlooking neighbours. It has been profiled in many noteable magazines/newspapers. The outdoor bathroom was named 'Australias most beautiful bathroom' by Home Beautiful Magazine in 2010.
We have an expansive library, projection screen (for dvd's or TV) and music....but mostly staying here is about emersing yourself in nature. It would best suit a couple, but we are open to small family stays as long as the space and quiet is honoured. Cot available for babies/toddlers, and other children's equipment/toys.

Where you’ll be

Goonengerry, New South Wales, Australia

Byron Bay became a popular holiday destination in the 70's focusing on a laid back beachside surf scene, and alternative culture. The last 40 years has seen Byron itself grown into more of a family holiday destination with outstanding beaches, cafes, restaurants and water based activities.

Mostly, 'the locals' live in the outlying areas (the hinterland) which buzzes with creativity, and with the spirit of Australia at its core, has attracted residents from all over the world. Our home is just outside a small village called Goonengerry right in the heart of the hinterland. Goonengerry is 5 mins from Federal and the fabulous Doma cafe and 30 mins from Byron Bay, where the rolling 'Mr Men' hills meet the wilderness of the rainforest. The famous Minyon Falls are also just 5 mins down the road, and there is easy access to Lismore, Mullumbimby and the rest of the Rainbow Region.
