Only one hour from the CBD yet it feels like another world. Watch the sun rise over the escarpment rising above the glorious Hawkesbury River and drift off to sleep to the rhythm of gently lapping waves. Come by ferry, water taxi or tinny ( not jet ski) to our car-free island. Curl up with a book, bushwalk, birdwatch, throw in a line or stroll down to the cafe for coffee. Perfect for writers, artists, boaters, photographers and nature lovers. Recharge and make memories!

The space
A unique, restored private cabin right on the water. Recent renovations have respected the character of this rustic cabin. The cabin has air-conditioning , a ceiling fan, electric blankets, high quality linen, ensuite bathroom, well-equipped kitchen, with full stove and cooktop, fridge, microwave and other appliances. There is a private balcony overlooking the river and downstairs another large shady deck with deck chairs where you can relax and hang out and a third small deck to the side which is like a little treehouse.
Use the jetty if you are bringing your boat or would like to go fishing off the jetty.
The cabin is three jetties down from Bradley's beach and a short walk to the Cafe, Bowling Club and main ferry wharf.
Ideal for relaxing, swimming, walking, chilling, writing and dreaming.
Views you would not believe! You will fall in love with this unique little home - it has a sense of simplicity and everything you need to just live.
Enjoy the bush, birdwatching, cloud watching, river gazing and the stars at night! Leave your car on the mainland and take a complete break from your hectic lifestyle.
There is one open plan living space with a queen size comfy bed and both a double and a single size sofa-bed which can be made up to accommodate kids or friends who don't want to share a bed.
(See the pictures)
Take the ferry over to Brooklyn and enjoy the cafes and seafood restaurants.
The main train from the CBD meets the ferry and regularly runs throughout the week.
If you want space to breathe and get back in touch with the rhythms of nature, this is the holiday you need. Its gentle pace, its light, its expansive views! So special, and the comforting thing is it's yours when you need it!

Where you’ll be

Dangar Island, New South Wales, Australia

When I'm here at Dangar, I feel this place belongs to the birds, and I'm visiting their place. The birds own Dangar Island. There is a real community spirit among humans here on Dangar and a very open and inclusive culture.
The first weekend I stayed on Dangar was just after Gay Mardi Gras, and on my Sunday morning walk I witnessed a bevvy of tutu-clad young fathers jogging with their sons in an event called the Dangar dash. It's like the human population are mimicking the "out there" dress sense of the island's avian inhabitants.
Anyway, on the whole it's quiet, friendly and creative people who are attracted to island life.
There's a bowling club for meals and events and drinks including Dangar open mike night and live gigs. There's also a Cafe seven days a week. It serves quite nice snacks including the famous Dangar Burger and good coffee.
You can also buy provisions at the café. At the top of the island, there's a lovely bush walk with a stunning view and Aboriginal carvings and caves to explore.

Hi ,
I enjoy painting, reading, music and walking. When I travel I am not focused on the main tourist attractions but like to stay for a while, hang out and get the feel of a place. I tend to walk all day and just discover things.
I have traveled a bit but i don't go on organised tours and often give the top 10 tourist traps a miss. I need an environment which is clean, airy and feels like home in an area which feels safe and friendly.
For me contact with nature is like oxygen a necessity of life. Our place at Dangar island allows us some respite from the relentless noise and responsibilities of our everyday lives. The sight of the Hawkesbury river and the sky is therapy. I can feel my blood pressure go down.
