We recently selected John's flat in Four Elms as our base of operations for a visit to a number of places in south east England. What an excellent choice it turned out to be. We were a party of four adults and we found the flat to be extremely comfortable and well-equipped. From there we conducted day trips to Dover, Canterbury and Brighton, all of which were within easy driving distance. In addition, we visited Chartwell and Hever Castle, which are practically on the flat's doorstep and which we enjoyed immensely. The flat is close to a number of excellent pubs; we had dinner one night at the Four Elms Inn, which is within easy walking distance of the flat, and another night at the Henry VIII in nearby Hever. There were several more to choose from, but we ran out of nights. John was a terrific host, meeting us as soon as we arrived and touring us through the flat explaining how everything worked ( a necessary thing for Canadians unfamiliar with British appliances). He was a font of local information and provided us with excellent tips on how to get around and what to see. The fresh bread and jam waiting for us in the flat were a much appreciated touch. My only regret is that we hadn't arranged to stay more than four nights!

The flat is very charming, was scrupulously clean and well set up for guests. The hosts thoughtfully provided breakfast items, which was very much appreciated as we didn't know the area well and the village is small. The list of local pubs for meals was also very useful. The flat is close to the road so traffic is something to bear in mind, but if you're used to London the noise is comparatively minor. I would recommend getting a car as there were very few local taxi firms and some of those very flaky! We couldn't find an obvious manual of instructions for the household appliances, which was a small shame as we'd really liked to have put on a wash / run the dishwasher and so on, but knew that there were no guests coming later that day and were a bit concerned about leaving the washing machine etc running unsupervised when we weren't totally confident with how they worked. This is a really small point though - otherwise very happy with everything and it was really well-suited to our needs.

We stayed at John's house for about two weeks. Both John and Gilly are very helpful and kind, which made our stay very pleasant. The house is very neat, facilities are all very new and morden. When they away for holiday, they asked their friends to take care of us, we definitely recommend you to stay at John's.

The Four Elms is a beautiful place to stay! Our host John was very helpful with details and also went the extra mile to leave us with some bread, milk and cereal which was very thoughtful. I would advise anyone to plan their journey here before it gets dark as there are no street lights and it was very difficult to see the road names. Overall it is a lovely small village and would highly recommend the Four Elms as a great place to stay!
