“We had such an easy and comfortable stay at Mint Leaf Cottage. The cottage is beautiful and so well located for visiting all the local hotspots, especially Hauser & Wirth. The cottage was spotlessly clean, comfortable, stylish and had everything we needed and more. It felt like a proper home and we all commented on the super comfy beds! Slept amazing well! Trina was amazing on messages. We really wished we could have stayed longer and can’t wait to visit again! Thank you, Trina!” Guest, July 2020

Location

Bruton, England, United Kingdom

BRUTON is a chocolate-box market town and friendly village (circa 3000 residents) which has been sprinkled with stardust and celebrity residents in recent times (Stella McCartney / Andrea Corr / George Osborne / Pearl Lowe / Mariella Frostrup / Kevin McCloud – to name a few!).

There are traditional pubs and great restaurants including OSIP, At The Chapel (5 mins walk up the High Street), Roth Bar & Restaurant (linked with Hauser & Wirth – 15 mins walk through country fields) and Matt’s Kitchen (in his home). There is also a Chinese Takeaway (Rickshaw) across the road and Budgens next door if you fancy a quick pizza and bottle of wine on the sofa!

A major draw to the village is The Newt and Hauser & Wirth Gallery which showcases contemporary art in a quirky setting. Entry is FREE.

The countryside is beautiful. If you like walking don't miss a hike to the Dovecote for magnificent views across Bruton. Other walks include Creech Hill (the highest point in South-East Somerset), Dunkery Hill (the highest point in Somerset), King Alfred's Tower, Stourhead Ornamental Gardens, Cadbury Castle and Glastonbury Tor.

WALK: CREECH HILL
Half-day countryside walk starting in Bruton (about 13.2km / 8.2 miles long) with beautiful views towards the imposing King Alfred's Tower on the Stourhead Estate - an iconic image of the Somerset Levels. This circular walk takes in the sights of Bruton and heads into the surrounding lush farmlands, taking you up to the local high spot of Creech Hill which is notable for a univallate Iron Age hill fort. It features in the book 'England's 100 Best Views' and features Iron Age forts, a Roman temple and ancient woodlands. Coming back, you are treated to more local delights and an enchanting glimpse of Glastonbury Tor.

WALK: KING ALFRED'S TOWER, BREWHAM
King Alfred's Tower is a 160ft tall folly tower marking the spot where King Alfred rallied the forces of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire, before his decisive defeat at the Battle of Edington in 878AD. It was erected in the mid-18th century by banker Henry Hoare II, then owner of the Stourhead estate, and dominates the landscape in the Cranbourne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In his book 'England's 100 Best Views', the National Trust describes the vista from Creech Hill towards Stourhead as the best view of the Somerset Levels, "Creech Hill stands seven miles to the north and is closer to the Levels. It looks up to Stourhead behind it, and looks across to Cadbury to the left. "It directly overlooks the golden limestone town of Bruton, deep in the Brue valley and with only its church and dovecot visible from a distance."

Hello! I’m Trina and together with my (surfing-mad...!) husband Phil we look forward to inviting you to stay at Mint Leaf Cottages, Bruton in the very heart of beautiful Somerset. We got married in Bruton at St Mary's and Gants Mill in 2012 and immediately fell in love with the place – we know you will too! We’ve recently returned to the UK after a few years spent living in Sydney, Australia and have been busy turning these beautiful stone cottages into warm and cosy retreats away from the world - in fact, they're the kind of place we'd love to retreat to ourselves and were modelled on that vision! We love travelling, exploring and eating and - with these hobbies in mind - we can't wait to share with you all the wonderful walks, shops and restaurants we've uncovered in this quintessentially English-countryside village. We’ve got a fantastic cleaning team on board and we promise you that the cottage will be immaculate for your visit with all the toiletries you might need, freshly-laundered linen, clean and fluffy towels plus a relaxing lounge and kitchen / dining area equipped with pots, pans, crockery and cutlery for all your cooking needs. If you’re looking for a romantic break or an escape from the rat-race look no further. Get ready to snuggle down with a good book in the squashy sofa or sink into a hot bubbly bath with a well-deserved glass of wine... from the Welcome Hamper of course! If you have any Qs please do not hesitate to contact us - we look forward to welcoming you soon! Lots of love, Trina & Phil xxx
