Our farm is located in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. Because of our location in the countryside, there is no 'light' pollution in our area, and this makes star gazing on a clear night magnificent. You can clearly see the Southern Cross star formation, the milky way, travelling satellites etc

Tony & Julie, and sometimes our adult children, live on the property 50 metres away. We are mindful of your privacy, but happy to help if needed, and enjoy sharing our farm life /local tips with you whilst taking you out on the farm experience.

Although we love animals, we unfortunately are unable to allow guests to bring pets with them, as we are a working sheep farm. Dogs can carry Hydatids, which can cause sheep that are being processed for meat to be condemned if detected during processing. Our farm dogs are dosed against hydatids every 6 weeks.
Sootie, our cat, will probably make herself known to you (most farms have a cat, they are very helpful for rodent control). We request that in view of other guests who may have allergies, that she is not given access during your stay to the accommodation. Sometimes you will find she is wary of you and may be unfriendly.

We provide protective footwear in varying sizes, and we request that you wear them for the farm tour due to "on farm bio security measures", which protect you and our animals, also keeps 'your shoes' clean :)

The farm area is 347 hectares (850 acres). From our cottage you look over a large portion of our farmland, with a backdrop of nearby hills and mountains including our local ski field Mt Dobson (20 mins away). All our animals are 100%grass fed, and in the summer when grass is plentiful we make hay and silage provisions for winter, also we plant vegetable crops for the animals in winter (e.g. sugar beet, kale), as the grass does not grow in our region in winter for approximately 100 days.
We grow an extensive vegetable garden in summer.

*Please remember you are visiting a large farm, "which has its own unique location", away from the town, away from other tourists, without street lights, where you can relax and recharge in peacefulness, whilst enjoying the views, learn a little about typical New Zealand farm life, and interact with some friendly farm animals.
Our farm is easy to find, and conveniently located at 242 Cricklewood Road, just 2.4km off State Highway 8 (Timaru to Fairlie road)

Tony & I both grew up on NZ farms. I spent 30 years working as a Registered Nurse, (a training that continues to be very useful when caring for newborn or sick animals on the farm), and Tony was a sheep shearer, prior to us starting farming in 1990. Tony & I have enjoyed hosting guests from around the world for over 10 years at our farm, a concept we developed after memorable nights staying with other farmers overseas while Tony was teaching sheep shearing and representing New Zealand at sheep shearing competitions in the UK, South Africa, Australia, & USA. We love the farming lifestyle, the clean air, caring for our animals and we are keen gardeners - everything is fondly cared for from pasture to plate. We enjoy living in the Mackenzie area with its memorable views, beautiful blue lakes, mountains, and the four seasons. We adore living in New Zealand, for its ever changing scenery, 'uncrowded lifestyle"( not even 1 million people live in all of the south island of NZ), and many outdoor advantages, especially hiking some of our world renowned walking tracks. Come visit New Zealand, you will love it! We are especially happy to help you with any questions about your itinerary you may have. A stay with Tony and I will ensure you are treated with the utmost respect, no matter what your nationality! Safe Travels....
