During the remodeling multi-layered soundproofing was installed between 100% of the framing spaces within all rooms - including ceilings, walls, floors, and even the minor partitions between rooms. This was so successful that noise is greatly muted and the distancing of urban sounds allows restful stress-free sleeping. The last step in the completion of this feature was shearing a layer of 3/4 inch plywood under all of the sheetrock. Use an alarm clock here if you wish to defeat oversleeping.

The space

This is a four-room flat that is level with the sidewalk outside. An entrance portico features a cedar-lined closet for exterior garments and extra shelving for storage. The fireplace in the living room is legitimately useful in accordance with code. A formal dining room joined with a high-capacity galley precedes a centerline hallway to the rear bedroom. On the way through the hall a full bathroom is on one side and the laundry closet is on the other. The bedroom is wide enough to be split for a desk office area on the side opposite the queen-sized bed. Another cedar closet is double wide accessed by sliding mirrored doors. A rear wall doorway gives access to the rear yard via a one-story descent on a spiral staircase. The patio bbq area provides a panoramic view of the city's skyscraper skyline, the Bay Bridge, bluewater, and the distant Oakland hills. Because the AT&T (Giants) baseball stadium is also within this viewing direction nighttime fireworks displays occur several "extra" times each year - in addition to the major holidays which feature the same. The living room has a queen-sized hide-a-bed which we prepare for incoming guests in advance. For a group of six people we can also prep a third bed - a double-sized sofa-bed - in the rear bedroom near the foot of the queen-sized bed.

Guest access

All of the sidewalk level floor space is a privately reserved apartment for the occupying guests. Use of the rear yard is shared with the owner living one story above and one other single person who resides within a basement studio apartment that is level with the rear yard one story lower. Easy access is provided by use of an exterior steel spiral staircase from the bedroom's rear doorway.

Interaction with guests

The owners who are residing upstairs can respond to any functional need with immediacy. One is retired, usually on the premises, and is quietly semi-self-employed in office-oriented and writing projects. The other operates a real estate related business and moves about in the city up to seven days each week.

Other things to note

One method for making an inexpensive arrival from the airport is to use the BART subway from the airport to the 16th street station and then switch to a shortened taxi, uber, or bus ride from there to our address. The cost for this two-step trip is between $8 and $20 only - depending upon use of the bus or the taxi for the second leg.

Vinka and Barry made the process super seamless and simple! Sadly, we never were able to sit down with them and have some wine and learn about historic SF. They're very sweet and welcoming. The apartment was excellent and they were able to accommodate all 6 of us with a bed. Would highly recommend!

Terrific location, Barry and Vinka a very warm and welcoming. If you're lucky enough to get. Ice weather, there's a lovely garden with a killer view to enjoy.

The location is great. Close to restaurants but bring some walking shoes and be ready to climb a couple hills. The view of down town is amazing. Berry greeted us and was very pleasant. Overall it was a great experience.

Great place to stay! Bill and Vinka were great and easy to work with. They even let us drop our bags off in the morning before checking in so we didn't have to carry them with us as we explored the local breweries. Overall great hosts!!

We had a great time staying at Barry and Vinka's place. We enjoyed our time in SF and were grateful for all the tips they gave us about where to visit and what to stay away from. Great place, would definitely stay again!

My house is subdivided into private apartments since I no longer need the former extra family bedroom spaces.

During 1972 I became a migrant into the United States from what was then "Tito's" Yugoslavia (now Croatia). My native home was in the village of Smokvica - on the island of Korcula. Most of the population of Smokvica village is blood-related to me.

When young I worked on diverse family farming duties for managing olives and wine grapes. My last adult employment there was as a receptionist in a resort hotel - a promotion from overnight room-cleansing services.

My only Atlantic transit - Le Havre to New York - was via the Ile De France ocean liner.

San Francisco's Potrero Hill neighborhood was my original U.S. destination because I had close relatives already living here.

I am a gardener, cook, and I also enjoy following the San Francisco Giants. I appreciate past tenants who have been complimentary about my hospitality, the amenities, and the warm ambience.

I am professionally disciplined by 5-star resort employment experience to provide a cleansed, thus healthy, household environment.

During the remodeling extensive soundproofing of the home was successful and the interior is now a place of stressless peace as insulated from most city/street noises.

I like people, cats, dogs, orchids, and my 24-year companionship with a clever blue/gold macaw. I also feel fulfilled by seeing a body of water, San Francisco Bay, from my windows.

Potrero Hill is legendary as the local "garden spot" of annual weather and is sheltered from most wind and fog that can occur within San Francisco.

I feel fortunate to have lived the majority of my life here. I have also visited most of the national parks within the eleven western states with repeated trips to Southern California and Palm Springs.
