Location

Toetto, Piemonte, Italy

The immediate neighbourhood is the village of Castelnuovo Calcea, a small but very charming medieval village with a castle, a top restaurant, a bar/cafe, and warm and welcoming villagers. The surrounding area is dominated by wine-farming. Right by Albergo del Vino are several local wine producers (big and small) with focus on production of grapes such as Barbera and Dolcetto.

Castelnuovo Calcea belongs to Asti district. Asti is one of the best wine producers in the world, and is home to famous wines such as Asti Spumante DOCG and Barbera d'Asti Superiore, which are exported and sold around the world. Asti is one of Europe's preeminent gourmet destinations, and has a storied and rich gastronomy tradition. It is a wonderland for foodies!

Asti has a beautiful natural scenery, with hills, rivers and green valleys, and includes several national parks (such as Rochetta Tanaro). This pretty landscape is dotted with charming medieval villages and towns such as Canelli, Nizza Monferrato and San Damiano d'Asti, as well as medieval castles such as Moncalvo, Roccaverano and Costigliole. In the town of Asti, one finds a medieval old town, which testifies to Asti's time as an independent medieval commune in the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries.

Our place is 1,5 hours drive from Milano Malpensa or Milano Linate airports. It is a 1 hour drive from Torino airport, and 2 hours from Bergamo airport. A particularly nice way to get to Castelnuovo Calcea (if you are planning a longer multi-day trip), is to drive all the way from the French riviera (Cote d'Azur), along the Ligurian coast (with stops in beautiful places like Genoa), and then the scenic route into Alba and Asti.
