This is a beautiful and unique hand-crafted teak house nestled on the foothills of Doi Suthep Mountain.
It is in a very green, verdant area, a quiet neighborhood filled with cafes, restaurants, temples, and the popular Ban Khang Wat artist boutique and market.
The house is three stories tall, and has three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. It has a full kitchen and living room, fast internet, and off-street parking.

The space
This beautiful house, located in the artist enclave area south of Wat Umong, is surrounded by forest and temples, yet still very close to downtown, Nimmanheiman district, and Chiang Mai University.

The ground level of the house has an open plan living area with a kitchen, dining and living room. It extends onto a cozy garden with an outdoor table where you can enjoy el fresco dining.

It's perfect retreat for nature lovers: verdant, surrounded by greenery, perfect for guests wanting to experience a laid back getaway on the edge of the city.

Each bedroom has a king-sized bed and its own ensuite bathroom.

In light of the ongoing global pandemic, we are only allowing one booking at a time in this house. That means you get exclusive use of the house.
Your booking can have between 1-6 people, and the price varies with the number of guests.

Guest access
To be safe during the global covid-19 pandemic, we will only accept one booking at a time.
That means you will have exclusive use of the house, including the kitchen and living room.

So:
If you book for 1-2 people, we will open one bedroom (you choose which one!).
If you book for 3-4 people, we open two rooms (you choose which two!)
If you book for 5-6 people, we open all three bedrooms.

There is no curfew, feel free to come and go as you please, but please be quiet after 11pm.

We regret to inform you that the pool is not available during the pandemic.

Other things to note
We're on the door step to the jungle so you can expect to hear relaxing animal sounds at night. (Frogs, crickets etc... nothing too scary).
There are mosquitos (everywhere in Thailand, not just here!) so we do suggest bringing repellent for your stay.

The house is set over 3 levels, please bear in mind that there are many stairs. We caution guests travelling with young children to watch your children at all times.

Location

Amphur Muang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai, Thailand

This is truly the nicest neighborhood in Chiang Mai. It is NOT in the city center, but it is just minutes to downtown by Grab or motorbike. It has a secluded feel with many interesting small shops and cafes in walking distance. It's at the foot of Doi Suthep mountain, near the south entrance of Wat Umong, and near the meditation center of Wat Rampoeng. A perfect jungle getaway!

Please read the descriptions below of what is available within 15 minutes walking distance or less…..
15 Minutes Walk or Less……

——— Art Community and Shops ———
Ban Khang Wat - a modern local art community with a small selection of restaurants, coffee shops and local artisans who make, live and sell their wares. Small art festivals and film screenings also take place here on occasion.
Small shops and mini-marts: Go out of our gate, turn right and 20 seconds later you're at the first of many family run local shops that sell a selection of goods from toiletries, to beer to fresh fruit and vegetables.

———Restaurants and Coffee Shops ———
Restaurants - within walking distance of our house is a wide selection of small local restaurants and eateries. I've never counted but there are at least 20 places within 15 minutes walk of our house, with more coming all the time.

There are coffee shops everywhere, and almost all have wifi and nice places to sit and relax.

There are also noodle shops, food stalls including vegetarian options, prepared food markets (esp. in the evening), and local bar/beer gardens.

———Activities———
Cooking Schools
I can recommend a variety of cooking schools, and can help book if you want me to. Also, I occasionally teach small sessions on how to cook northeastern Thai/Lao regional cuisine.

Meditation
This area is famous for its meditation temples- Wat Rampoeng, Wat Umong, and others. But usually they offer longer courses. There is one temple (Wat Suan Dok) that also has one-day meditation courses— it’s about a 15min bike ride from the house.

Thai Massage
There are many, many massage shops around Chiang Mai, including in our neighborhood. It is also possible to have a masseuse come to the house, and I can help you contact one, but I cannot guarantee there will be one available . An hour-forty-five minute course is usually about 600 baht (or maybe a little more if two people each do one hour). Masseuses will not come to the house for only a 1-hour massage.

Hiking & Biking
There are many trails leading up into the jungle of Doi Suthep National Park, just a few meters away. You can hike, jog, run! There is even a trail that goes all the way to the top of Doi Suthep mountain! If you prefer running on a track, there is a public track a few hundred meters down the road.

Chiang Mai University (CMU) agricultural campus (not far from here) has quiet country roads frequented by local joggers and cyclists each morning and evening.
Doi Suthep Non-Hunting Area, just a few steps from the house, offers a beautiful series of nature trails leading to and around the area near Wat Umong. This is a great place to take a stroll and get a glimpse of local wildlife from wild deer, wild red cows, to exotic local birds, insects and even smaller reptiles.

Mountain biking is very popular here, and several of the best trails start at the top of Doi Suthep and end up not far from the house. Very convenient! Mountain bikes are available for rent in different parts of town.

Free Bicycles
We have a few very basic bikes you can use for free at the house.
Biking is a fun way to explore the area. You can reach Nimman in approximately 15 mins and the Old City in approximately 20 mins - the road goes gently downhill on the way there, so for those feeling lazy you could always hire a Song Thaew and put your bikes on the bike to return.

———Temples———
Wat Umong - one of the oldest and most beautiful temples in Chiang Mai. Partially set unground its name translates as the tunnel temple. It's set completely within nature. It's the number #1 attraction on Trip Advisor and can be accessed by a 15 minute walk along the village road or much more interestingly, pick up the start of the nature trail at the south gate, just 3 minutes walk from our place as described above (Doi Suthep Non-Hunting Area).

Wat Ram Poeng is a beautiful temple complex with many practicing monks and outside visitors. It is one of the largest centers in Thailand for participating in Vipassana silent meditation courses and it has a real charm and ambience. Our favorite time of day to visit is early morning where you can explore the setting during the quiet hustle of morning prayer and the giving of alms. Take a camera as there are plenty of photo opportunities.

Wat Pong Noi is a large village temple down the street from the house. Each evening the street outside Wat Pong Noi is home to wide selection of street vendors selling prepared food. It’s a great place to visit to pick up a snack or a meal take home - or why not just find a seat and eat on the street. This is one of my favourite places to visit and especially at night time when the place comes alive. Every Monday and Saturday there is a small afternoon/evening market held inside the grounds of the temple which is also worth a look if you happen to be in the area.
