All below suggestions are marked on this google map for your convenience:

Fru Marias Bak (“Madame Maria’s behind”), is a lovely bakery and cafe about 5 min walk where you can get fresh bread in the mornings and/or have a nice Fika or a glass wine in the afternoon: ( )

Adjacent to the bakery/café is Pizzeria Långbro, a decent Pizza take-away place which also has some easy pasta dishes. (Address: svartlösavägen 79)

A lovely place to eat or just have drinks in the beautiful park is Långbro Värdshus. It is situated in a large park (Långbro Park) with ponds with superb outdoor seating a 10-15 min walk from the house ( . Fredrik, the owner has been chef of the year in Sweden twice and was responsible for the food at the Nobel Price Banquette last year. However the prices are very decent, menus non-complicated and tradionally swedich and the atmosphere is laid back. Well worth a visit

In the same park, which used to be a mental asylum park in 19th century, is a lovely garden café called Långbro Bakfickan, there you can have Swedish Fika with coffee and cinnamon buns in a French inspired garden

If you like fine dining you could try to get at table Restaurant Aloe which in 2020 received its second stat (!) in Guide Michelin! It is two former (and now again!) Michelin star chefs who started fine dining in the suburb in a former residential house. It has had huge success with foodies . However bear in mind that since it is one of only three two star restaurants in Sweden it’s very pricey, with set menus on 2200 SEK per person. You need to reserve table in advance. However if you’re a foodie, this is a absolute gem you shouldn’t miss - it is widely renowned in Sweden!

The Aloe also has a really nice bar/restaurant Rinos as a side-kick restaurant, with lovely drinks and awesome food. Here the same Michelin star chefs serves innovative and really tasty food for decent prices in a very cozy and relaxed atmosphere, where both kids and couples are welcome. You can also enjoy the pinball machines or just an excellent drink in the bar.

Restaurant Bapuji serves very good Indian food located close to the station. It is a small place, so we usually do take-away

If you want Sushi, there is a standard sushi place on the way to the station, Asahi sushi. It is run by an elderly Japanese couple who make nice sushi.

Also on the way to the station is a Chinese take-away place - Långbro värdshus. It has both indoor and outdoor seating and the food is good and cheap. If you’re really hungry and don’t mind the old-school “Chinese” interior, they usually have a buffet for 169 SEK.

Just outside the closest supermarket is a Thai and sushi take-away place Lyckans wok och Thai, which is handy if you are shopping and want something fast.

There are some more restaurants around Älvsjö train station:
Italian food -
Sandwiches and baguettes - and and

However, if you venture into Stockholm, which we recommend, you will find an absolute abundance of different bars, restaurants and cafes

There three supermarkets within walking distance and a larger supermarket which is easier to access with car. Our favourite local supermarket is Ica Älvsjö, about 10-15 minute walk (

Outside Älvsjö train station there is another supermarket called Coop Älvsjö (

There is an XXL supermarket about 5-10 drive away called Stora Coop ( , but it is best accessed using a car ( but with you could find public transportation taking you there). At the same location there is a Systembolag (government owned store that is the only chain allowed to sell alcohol above 3,5 % alc).

The closest pharmacy which also has prescription drugs, is located at Älvsjö train Station. However basic drugs, such as pain killers etc. are available at all supermarkets.

There are two ATMs located around Älvsjö station, and there is also an ATM available at Ica Älvsjö. However most stores prefer that you use cards and a growing number of stores do not accept cash anymore.

Parks, lakes and forests around the house

There are a lot of small parks, playgrounds and green areas in the area which you easily can explore on you own. These are a few that we would recommend.

Just 10 minutes walk from the house you will find Älvsjö Nature Preserve. There you will find both running tracks and nice walking paths (and cross-country skiing in the winter). (

About 2 km away you will find Långsjön (“long lake”). At Lång sjön lake there is a small beach for children, some decks and a small restaurant with ice cream It is also perfect for ice skating during the winter (( . Take bus 144 towards Fruängen and get off at “långsjöplan” walk 266 m.

10 minutes away you will find Långbro Park, which used to be a mental asylum in the 1920s and have some ponds and great old houses that used to be part of the institution. In the park you will also find the excellent Långbro värdshus and Långbro bakficka (see above).

Then opposite the house, in the family and kids oriented park/playground Vivielparken, you will find a small forrest, where also a 17-th century mansion is situated.
