My husband and I live in an 1890's renovated farmhouse with our Jack Russell, Luna. Though we are on just over a half acre, we work the land as if it were a much larger plot; large garden, chickens, and fruit trees. With the emerging interest in living simply, we decided to open our home so others could come experience a slower paced life; think Mayberry with sketchy cell phone service, most restuarants and businesses closed on Sunday/Mondays, and a State Police force that is enthusiastic about enforcing the speed limit. Once you are here, there are plenty of things to do, including: - Jefferson Pools (currently closed) - Hiking - Dan Ingalls Overlook Trail and Shenandoah Mountain Trail - Fishing - Cowpasture and Jackson Rivers - Douthat State Park - Omni Homestead Resort & Spa (we are just 2 miles away!) - Garth Newel Music Center - Lake Moomaw/Bolar Mountain Recreational Area - The Gallery at Seven Oaks - Ashwood Station - Warm Springs Gallery - Ashwood School Antiques - Laura’s Boutique and Laura’s Loft - The Sparrow’s Nest - Bath Community Rehab and Wellness Center - Salt Cave (an hour away in White Sulfur Springs) Local places to eat: - Waterwheel Restaurant at the Inn at Grismill Square - Milk House Market at The Old Dairy - Cucci’s Pizzeria at the Varsity - Tavern at Warm Springs Inn - Les Cochon d’Or - Duck-in Deli and Subway - Sneads 1912 Steak House - Casino Restaurant at the Omni Homestead Resort - Country Café Check-in: after 4pm on day of arrival Check-out: before 11am on day of departure If you are interested in reading more about our lifestyle, you may read my blog at Ashwood Farmhouse (all one word) dot then com.
