Fall days are here-what a great time to explore the Shawnee Forest hiking and biking or kayaking!
Come back to relax inside or soak in the private hot tub. Watch your favorite shows on our 55" Smart TV. Stay connected with Alexa & fast WiFi. Grill or cook inside or walk to restaurants. Outside, enjoy the fire pit or fireplace, hammock, outdoor chairs, and a dining area with charcoal grill. Washer & dryer.

Private condo, upstairs living space, 850 square feet. Please, no smoking on property.

The space
Experience the Shawnee Forest and come back to relax and enjoy the hot tub and comfort of our Apartment. Hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, swimming, ziplines, and mountain biking are a few adventures in our area. If you just want to relax, have some coffee or sweet tea by the outdoor fire pit or fireplace. Sign in to your Netflix or Hulu, or watch our Pandora + and Disney + shows on the 55 inch Smart TV. A dip in the hot tub is always nice before snuggling into your comfy bed and a beautiful moon viewed from the back pagoda is always a special treat. And if your #adventures get you wet and muddy, we have a washer & dryer downstairs for our guests to use!

• Bicycles ~ We have two adult bikes (men & women) that you are welcome to use. Please let us know before you arrive and we will be sure they are ready for you.

• Pickleball ~ We have two pickleball sets for up to eight people available for our guests. The park (west of the Apartment down Church Street) has two new pickleball courts. Please let us know before your visit if you want to use the set.

• Tennis ~ We have four tennis racquets and balls if you want to go to the park and play a game. There are two new tennis courts available. The park is walking distance, (sidewalks) and about a mile west of the Apartment.

• Trails & Hiking ~ Our favorite app for hiking is AllTrails. but we also have maps available for your use in the Apartment. Phones don’t work everywhere in the Shawnee National forest, so take a picture of your map or take a map….phones aren't much help when they won’t connect!

• Wine Trails ~ As links aren't allowed in this listing, do a search for "Southern Illinois Wine Trails" for more information. They have maps available on the site also. I include the link in the welcome letter I send you before your visit.

The Apartment is a delightful place to rest, relax, and unwind with just you or your family....over 800 square feet of private space inside. And our location makes it easy to walk to restaurants, we are three blocks from the town square. Or, we have two adult bikes (men & women) for guests to use. They are wonderful for taking a ride on the nearby bike trail! Just a few blocks and you are on the Tunnel Hill don't have to go the entire way(45 miles). #noexpectations

Outside, the pagoda beckons you to relax and enjoy your time away. Keurig coffee on the pagoda by the fire pit is a good way to relax! We have a professional cleaning team after each guest, the cleaning fee goes directly to them and they do a great job. Please note that we are on multiple listing sites so if your dates are not available they are reserved by guests on other sites.

You can go out for your meals or cook your own. We are within strolling distance to several restaurants if you prefer dining out. However, your kitchen has dishes, pots, pans and utensils if you want to cook. We have local restaurant menus in the Apartment. Cooking is easy on the four burner electric stove with oven or outside on the Weber grill (we have the charcoal and the starter for you) . Store your supplies in the full size refrigerator. There is a microwave and a Keurig coffee (provided) maker (also a Mr. Coffee maker) in the kitchen. The bathroom has a surround tub and shower with fluffy towels and upscale amenities. (shampoo, conditioner, soap, moisturizing lotion, hand soap, first aid kit, etc.)

Enjoy a good night's rest on either of the three beds ( two twins in front bedroom, one queen size bed in back bedroom) or nap on the couch in the living room. Each bedroom has a walk in closet to store your "things". Each mattress has a zippered cover to protect against allergens and pests. Everyone can have a little of their own space in our apartment. We also have available if you need it, a washer and dryer in the garage under the Apartment.

If you enjoy relaxing outside, there is a large patio pagoda available covered by Sunbrella fabric to block 95% of the sun's UV rays...we recommend a good book on the patio with some sweet tea or a cup of coffee as you relax to the sound of our fountains and birds singing. During the warm months, we put up the hammock and chair swing we brought from Nicaragua. We also have a (gas) outdoor fire pit if the nights are a little cool. Two outdoor dining tables and several adirondack style chairs make it easy to relax in a beautiful setting.
Growing up in the south, we have a love for flowering plants and there is always something blooming in our yard until the frost comes..

Parking: We have one dedicated parking space outside the apartment, under the flag and fountain. Let us know if you need an extra space. We want you to be comfortable and enjoy your stay.

Where you’ll be

Harrisburg, Illinois, United States

We are located in the historic row of homes in Harrisburg. We are a quiet, calm neighborhood where you can walk safely to stores, restaurants, or the Steam Cafe coffee shop.

We love families, while you enjoy hiking and biking, there are also some preschool and children’s activities the younger family members might also enjoy during your stay at the Apartment. The City Park (Paul Emery Park, 921 W. Poplar St.) is within walking or wagon pulling (we have the wagon) distance. The park has a tot lot and several playgrounds for younger and older children. It also has a basketball court, tennis court, and June 1-August 5, the community pool is open daily. (pool $3 admission fee) There is also an outdoor fitness/exercise area with some equipment to help us all stay in shape. We have bikes, a wagon, and tennis racquets/balls for your use while you are at the Apartment.

Perhaps you would like to try a ride on the Tunnel Hill State bike trail which begins a few blocks from the apartment (trail is 45 miles, Harrisburg-Karnak, ask about using our 2 bikes) hiking, boating, hunting, fishing or driving in the Shawnee National Forest. You can ride or walk as little or as much as you want!

Dewayne and I celebrated forty-five years of marriage this year. We spent three of those years in Germany (when he was in the USAF for 12 years) and then we were transferred to the Midwest and have spent the remaining thirty-eight of those years in Missouri and Illinois. We were raised in the south, Georgia and Florida respectively. Dewayne is a history buff and loves a good movie (Anything Marvel, history or a good clean comedy). I enjoy romantic comedies but really like a good book . I enjoy working in my flower gardens but NOT digging weeds! We enjoy helping people, especially thru mission trips at our church. We usually go at least once a year to work in a village in West or East Africa. Whether it is Africa, Bulgaria, or Nicaragua, we are open to going to help others. We travel in the United States for vacation or to visit family and often drive. We LOVE to travel. We love Amtrak with a sleeper car…the California Zephyr or the Empire Builder. Some of our favorite trips are Punta Cana, Chicago, Seattle, Butchart Gardens in British Columbia, and we enjoy cruises! We have three daughters/sons-in-law and eight grandkids. They are in three different states, Illinois, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. We have lived in this home for twenty-one hears as Dewayne is a pastor and I do volunteer work and teach REFIT cardio fitness classes for women. We would love to have you visit us when you are needing an enjoyable place to explore, a get away, or a place to stay when in our area of Southern Illinois. We hope to be a blessing to those who pass our way!
