Holiday apartment in Swafield Hall with stunning interiors, tranquil gardens, parkland & tennis court. South Wing was beautifully renovated, sleeps 4(5) and contains a principal bedroom/lounge (exposed beams, kingsize bed, antique chandeliers & fireplace, authentic windows with the original shutters), twin bedroom and a dedicated kitchen. Use the barbecue, gardens, croquet lawn, outdoor tables, loungers, conservatory, relax in the hammock or on the benches in the lime arbor in the Secret Garden.

The space
Swafield Hall offers self-catering accommodation in a truly outstanding rural setting, within tranquil gardens and beautiful parkland. Swafield Hall estate is ideally located near the North Norfolk coast, on the road from Swafield village to the coastal resort of Mundesley, with its wonderful sandy beach (2.8 miles walk/drive). It is equidistant between two main tourist attractions in North Norfolk: Cromer (8 miles) and the Broads (8 miles). Sheringham is 13 miles. National Trust treasures Felbrigg Hall and Blickling Hall are both just in 10 miles from Swafield Hall.
The house is mentioned in "The Buildings of England" by Nicolaus Pevsner and Bill Wilson and has an impressive brick and flint Tudor North facade and beautiful lime washed Georgian South elevation. Local legend reports that Admiral Horatio Nelson stayed in the house. He visited the local area many times and attended Paston Grammar School, North Walsham, until he was 12 years old. North Walsham is 2 miles from Swafield.
At Swafield Hall guests can enjoy all beautiful gardens, use the tennis court, croquet lawn, barbecue, tables at the parterre for outdoor breakfasts / dinners, seating area in the large wooden Victorian style conservatory, outdoor sunbathing area with deck chairs and cocktail table, shaded relaxation area with a hammock near the parterre and the main lawn, relaxation area in the Arabian Secret garden with a lime tree canopy and two benches etc.
The house has ample parking in the tudor courtyard. Guests' bicycles can be securely stored overnight.

The Butterfly reserve, Paston Way and Dilham to North Walsham canal (Norfolk’s only artificial, locked sailing canal) are 5 minutes walk from the Hall and ideal for leisurely walks or bicycle rides.
The nearest villages are Swafield (1 mile) with the award winning local butcher Tavern Tasty Meats, Trunch (1.7 miles) with an excellent pub 'The Crown Inn' and famous classical concerts in Trunch Church during the summer season, and the Market Town of North Walsham (2 miles) containing several pubs and restaurants, the local Waitrose and Sainsburys.

For larger parties the South Wing apartment can be rented together with Nelson’s Suite (+2), and/or with the East Wing (+2) providing accommodation for up to 9 guests. Nelson’s Suite is a luxurious 250 square feet private room, situated on the first floor of Swafield Hall. Nelson’s Suite retains its original features like antique plaster, bay windows, servants bell mechanisms, servants door and C18th enfilade doors. It sleeps 2 and contains a large lounge/bedroom with exposed oak beams, kingsize bed, 42″ flat screen TV, polished wood floors, crystal chandelier, antique furniture, bay sash windows and stunning views over the parterre and main lawn. It has its own en-suite with Victorian style shower and original fireplace. Please contact the owners if you would be interested in booking this room as part of your visit .

To access the apartments you pass through the historical interiors of Swafield Hall. The large South Wing apartment is situated on the second floor and reached via the 18th century main staircase, the first floor hallway and the upper staircase. The apartment occupies the largest part of the second floor. The secluded location on the the top floor allows you to enjoy stunning views from all windows

Other things to note
The top staircase and some floors upstairs are covered with high-quality soft carpets. You can bring your own slippers for upstairs or use the ones which are provided.

The nearest villages to the estate are Swafield (1 mile), with famous local butcher "Tavern Tasty Meats" and Trunch (1.7 miles) with St Botolph church and a popular pub ‘The Crown Inn‘ . The most interesting part of St Botolph in Trunch is its magnificent wooden carved font canopy, one of only four such surviving canopies in all of England. The nearest coastal resort of Mundesley, with its wonderful sandy beach and great pubs (2.9 miles walk/drive). Nearby you can find some of the finest beaches the UK has to offer (Cromer 8 miles, Sheringham 13 miles) and the famous Norfolk Broads (8 miles).
The nearby market town of North Walsham (2.5 miles) contains several restaurants, the local Waitrose and Sainsburys.
Swafield village had an entry in the Domesday Book of 1085. The church of St Nicholas at Swafield has one of the few remaining Medieval Rood Screens in Norfolk. It was built in 13th or 14th centuries and extended in the 15th century. St Nicholas sits proudly on a hill and there is a beautiful view to the surrounding countryside, including view to Swafield Hall.
The picturesque old railway track of the northern section of the Norfolk and Suffolk Joint Railway is just 5 minutes walk from Swafield Hall. It is now a public walkway (a part of the Paston Way footpath) and butterfly reserve. The railway was constructed in the 19th and 20th centuries, though unfortunately the section that linked Swafield to North Walsham was closed in 1964. Pigney’s Wood is 15 minutes walk, it is managed by North Norfolk Community Woodland Trust and serves as a haven for wild flowers, butterflies and birds. The site comprises 1.7 hectares mature mixed woodland, 7.8 hectares of new woodland, 8.5 hectares open ground and 5.5 hectares low-lying, wet grassland. Over 20,000 trees of forty species have been planted since the site was purchased in 1992.
In Swafield the walkway along the old railway track crosses the course of the canal. Swafield is one of only a few villages in Norfolk with a canal – The North Walsham and Dilham Canal, which is the only canal in Norfolk. The canal was constructed and opened in 1826 and is 8.7 miles long and runs from Swafield Bridge to a junction with the River Ant at Smallburgh. The canal was constructed with locks a little wider than most canals in the UK to accommodate the use of the Norfolk wherries, hence the image of a wherry on Swafield’s village sign.

Previously Chief Editor and Managing Director of the most read daily newspaper in Moscow (Russia), Boris got two higher education, first as a radio physicists and second as a theatre director. At the perestroika time he chose to work in the new born independent media business and achieved commercial success. Boris likes theatre and classical music, handicrafts, restoration and decorating, he is an avid gardener and Harley enthusiast. In 2014 Boris quit his job in media business, which became too dependent politically, moved from Moscow to London and started looking for a restoration project. "When we visited Norfolk and saw Swafield Hall for the first time the house definitely wasn’t in its best condition. It had been on the property market for a long time and nobody had lived there for 3 years. The roof was leaking, walls were cracked, some windows, doors and wooden constructions were rotten… It was crying out for TLC. But it was a beautiful, outstanding house with more than 4 centuries of history, great interiors and marvellous gardens. We said “definitely not” but returned here once, returned again, and finally decided to buy Swafield Hall, renovate it and restore it to its previous glory. The renovation started in May 2015, and the work on Swafield Hall is now complete. We are happy to share our love and passion for this beautiful historic house with our guests".
