In a quiet street in the heart of small town Dunkeld, Perthshire, Scotland (12 miles from Perth and an hour from Edinburgh) a beautiful, inviting holiday home for two, ideal for a romantic break or as a great sightseeing base. Woodland and river walks from the door, with cycling routes and longer walks easy to access.
With a delightful little back garden to sit in (it's a sun trap!), garden birds and occasional visiting red squirrels, a woodburning stove for colder nights, unfussy decor and a super-comfortable bed, this is a small piece of paradise! Escape from city life here, yet just over an hour from Edinburgh and its airport, and just 12 miles from the city of Perth. This is a wonderful area to explore: castles, gardens, country houses, palaces, or open spaces of hills, woods and riversides for strolling, walkin, hiking and cycling. It's idyllic! Sit in the garden with a good book and a mug of coffee or glass of wine, wander by the river in the evening, or spot deer, birds, squirrels and other fantastic wildlife from the door. The ground floor apartment is ideal for two with living room (with dining space), fully equipped kitchen, good bathroom with shower, and a very comfortable double bed with wardrobe space in the cosy bedroom. A romantic getaway or a place to relax, with all that you need just along the road (delicatessen, little art gallery, convenience store, cafes, bistro, pub with live traditional music....and more!) Lots of books, maps, leaflets on the area and a house folder to help you settle in, too.
You will have your own front entrance door, back garden, living room with dining area, a small kitchen (with door leading to back garden), bathroom with shower, wc & basin, a double bedroom and hallway. There is an outhouse for storing walking and golfing gear and you could squeeze in a bike or two! In the nearby hotel there is a pool and gym, sauna and steam room.
Other things to note
Dunkeld has a station nearby, with connections from Edinburgh, Perth and Inverness. A car is ideal for touring, (free parking throughout Dunkeld itself) but if you like walking and relaxing, train travel is easy. We can usually arrange for you to be collected from the station, or provide a taxi contact.
Please respect neighbours, the garden wildlife and the immediate environment. Strictly no smoking on the property, including doorways and garden. Pets: 1 small or medium sized dog only please, must be house trained.
From Nov 11, 2017 - Mar 30, 2018 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
I have a caretaker who is usually available within 24 hours to help if you experience any problems. There is lots of information in the house: a folder of advice on how things work, suggestions where you can eat and places to visit, also books, maps and leaflets on the area and sights. It's very easy to find your way around. I am at the end of the phone if you need to contact me.
I work as a volunteer, organising filmshows of foreign language and arthouse films for the local community. I have been a training course organiser and tutor, and an events organiser. I love animals, enjoy travel and film-watching, and photography. I'm veggie and enjoy eating out.
