We chose St Andrews because of the long sandy beaches, old, old town, amazing scenery and proximity to airports and trains. Our cottages - West Sands and East Sands - can be rented together or separately; are converted from 18thC stables buildings and set just outside the centre of town in beautiful quiet grounds.

House Rules

Hello. Our family's living across the courtyard from the cottages. We're screened from one another by trees so privacy's good: our mission in life's to be as quiet and considerate as possible so we all have a good time.

If you have a question and we're about we're happy to do all we can, though there's no round-the-clock how-may-we-help-you turndown-and-trouser-press concierge service.

We have a cat and two small dogs who are not meant to wander into the cottages, but given the chance of an unguarded open door they might be forgiven for making a break for the border. They're very friendly and mostly pretty respectful, so if they commit such a crime please just shoo them out.

We ask you not to smoke in the cottages and suggest you take a minute to read carefully the notes about heating, plumbing etc., mostly because the stables are part of an historic estate: our guests have been great and there's never been a drain issue, but it isn't a thing we'd want on holiday and imagine you'll feel the same way.

We reserve the right to charge cost price for breakages, spills/stains and other damage, and extra cleaning or excessive heating charges.

From the immaculate kitchen to the exceptionally comfortable beds and pillows (better than some 5 star hotels!) to the idyllic setting, this cottage is unusually charming. The decor is beautifully done; the shower good; the kitchen well kitted out. Opening the top of the Dutch kitchen door to clean air and softly cooing birds was enchanting. All this only 5 minutes from St. Andrews! Parking can require a little maneuvering depending on the parking styles of other guests but was always manageable. We hated to leave.

Response from Claudia:
So glad you enjoyed your stay, Angela, and apologies for any sloppy parking by neighbours: I'll look into that and see if I can improve things, there. Hope to see you back here sometime soon.

This was a lovely place to stay. The cottage is top notch, with a beautifully outfitted kitchen and lovely appointments throughout. We stayed for a week and were very comfortable.

Our party of three stayed in the East cottage. The furnishings are first quality, with attention to details throughout. Located a five minute drive (or 40 minute walk along the shore) from the center of St. Andrews, the cottages are charmingly nestled in the village of Kincaple. We loved awaking to bird song, and enjoyed the masses of flowers in the gardens. The wood stove was a great pleasure at the end of the day. This is truly a one-of-a-kind accommodation that is sure to please.

Our week in St. Andrews was wonderful. The cottage is set deep in a secluded area, yet very short driving time to The Old Course, and town. Quiet and idyllic, with every luxury. Beautifully decorated, yet comfortable and relaxed. Claudia saw to every detail, even coffee and fresh tulips. Highly recommended. We hope to return one day.

Stunning place! We stayed for 8 days (2 adults, 2 boys, 1 Whippet) Lots of the nearby beaches. Restaurants: The Steak Barn, Blackhorn both really good. Lots of gin at the St Andrews Brewing Company Took literally 7 mins to drive into town. 20 mins bus. Saw seals. Claudia was beyond helpful. We'd love to come back.

Well, we'd love you to come back -- and Stanley would be beside himself to think Solo might come back to play.

Response from Claudia:
Thanks, Scott -- we do like to think we've cracked the location thing here: not too busy, yet so close. And you're welcome back anytime.

I've travelled a lot in my work as a freelance writer and out of it. We moved to St Andrews in Scotland from my last stop (Amsterdam NL) for the rugged scenery, the beaches, the Scottish way of life (yes, times have changed and you can get *great* food here) and for the poetry. It's beautiful here: bring a sweater.
