About this listing
Our home is at the back of a beautiful complex. It's green, quiet and private, yet only a couple of blocks off the 'good end' of Brunswick St. This is really the best location in Fitzroy. Nestled between Brunswick and Nicholson and just 500m to the beautiful Carlton Gardens and Melbourne Museum.
This is a family home, sharing the house with myself and Rowan and our baby Tom. We have been sharing our home for many years and love to see our guests enjoy Fitzroy as much as we do.
The private room is extra large with a queen sized bed. It is fully furnished with your own private bathroom. No fresh white modern design to be found here. The house is quirky in all its 80's glory but it has character and is homely.
The room is a set up as a place to completely unwind with a solid collection of books, an arm chair and a desk should you need to set up and work. Everything you need is provided including wi-fi, bathroom essentials, tea & coffee and good quality linen.
You are welcome to share the large fully equipped kitchen available if you wanted to cook however Fitzroy is full of restaurants and cafes so you may prefer to go out. (we love to recommend our favourite places) We have a great little courtyard to sit out and enjoy the sun or inside is a dining room and living room.
There is a shared pool in the complex which will be available to guests to use and is open usually from about November onwards.
Guests are most welcome to use the kitchen and living areas. There is also a parking permit if required and guests are welcome to use the pool over the Summer months.
Interaction with guests
Between work, study and family life we're very busy during the days and on weekends but always available for guests. We can be found most evenings with a glass of wine, or watching the latest series on Netflix.
We are always happy to recommend places to eat, drink and play. We have lived in Fitzroy for more than 10 years and love to share our local knowledge.
As a young family we are discovering a different side to Fitzroy that we hadn't known before. The parks, Collingwood Children's farm and Yarra River trails provide many activities as an alternative to the usual social aspect of Fitzroy.
There is an abundance of good coffee and places to have breakfast. The shopping is unique with locally sourced products, designer boutiques and galleries to browse during the day.
It is a short 10 minute walk to Smith St and Gertrude St too. Smith St has a huge collection of vintage stores and Gertrude St is home to some of the best restaurants in Melbourne. Carlton is also just a 10 minute walk away giving you access to all that Lygon St has to offer, this really is a very central location.
We are just off the bustling Brunswick St and across the road from Carlton Gardens. It is a 15 minute walk to the top end of the CBD or the 96 and 11 trams are our nearest trams. Parliament station is also a 10 minute walk away.
Melbourne CBD is an easy walk or both trams near our house run right through the heart of the city, past the Southern Cross terminal for access to the airport shuttle bus plus on to St Kilda if you want to go to the beach for a day.
Other things to note
There is a baby in the house but he is used to being around lots of people and is quite social... we have also been blessed with a great sleeper so makes minimal noise during the night.
This is a quiet family home and would be suitable for guests looking for a more family friendly experience in Fitzroy.

Rowan and I are married and we live a fairly quiet life with our 1 year old son Tommy. Art and music would be our passion however we don't get out to as many event these days. We still love traveling, although our overseas trips have become family friendly local jaunts.
I am studying and on maternity leave whilst Rowan spends a lot of time working on his illustrations and computer designs. Tommy is a very chilled little boy who is used to being around lots of different people.
We have lived in Fitzroy for more than 10 years so know the area inside out and can share a lot of local knowledge about our neighbourhood. As a host we are happy to share this knowledge and as a guest we would be grateful to hear it!
We're pretty relaxed about traveling and our house and like to keep things pretty simple and sincere.
