Our stay at John's place was perfect! The house is gorgeous and impeccably well-cared for. It sits back in the most peaceful wooded area that we enjoyed often while sitting in the outdoor seating area off our room or on the large screen porch off the main house. John and Marvin were so very welcoming, offering numerous valuable suggestions for things to do, places to eat, and places to walk or bike. The baked goods, jam, and coffee were to die for! Staying here topped off our wonderful visit, and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone traveling to the area!

All in all, a better experience than I would have thought beforehand. John is the quintessential host, and goes far beyond the bare minimum. I loved the modern cabin in the woods. A great get-away weekend. He provided good suggestions for places to eat, possible trails for bike rides, you name it. Buck (the well-behaved boxer) was also a friendly short-term companion. I wasn't expecting it, but the coffee and scones in the morning were delightful. The oatmeal/raisin/chocolate chip/nut/whatever else cookie was a treat for the ride home. If you are thinking about getting away to the Fennville/Douglas/Saugatuck/South Haven area, you can't go wrong by staying with John. Thanks for a relaxing weekend. I hope to be back soon.

Response from John:
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay, Mark. I took the same ride to Saugatuck later in the day and realized it was only 7 miles to Blue Star Hwy and not 10. I had been overestimating my mileage! I hope to see you again soon. John

Fantastic! John was out of town when I stayed, but Marvin and Buck were amazing hosts. The house is beautiful and the room was large, clean and comfortable. This is a great location. It's private and very quiet, yet just 20 minutes from Holland and even closer to Saugatuck. Marvin bakes for a local coffee shop and his scones were delicious, as was the French press coffee he brewed each morning. He offered to prepare bacon and eggs for me, but I was happy to simply enjoy a hot scone. I was also offered a glass of wine upon my arrival. His hospitality was as good as it gets. The satellite wi-fi was more than adequate with speeds of 16 Mbps down and about 4 Mbps up. Out of courtesy to John, don't plan to stream Netflix, etc. as satellite bandwidth is expensive. DirecTV was available in the room for TV viewing if desired. Dog lovers will truly enjoy Buck, a very friendly and obedient Boxer. Buck loves scones too, but he will stay away and lie on his bed if you tell him to. If I am ever in the area again I hope John has a room available. It will always be my first choice when visiting the Holland/Saugatuck area.

My boyfriend and I were looking to get out of Chicago for a few days and John's place was the perfect fit. As a first time Airbnb user, I didn't really know what to expect but this was absolutely perfect. I had to work late the day we were expected to arrive and John was patient with our changing schedules. Marvin was there to greet us that evening with wine in hand! We enjoyed our days exploring the surrounding towns and felt welcome when we were back "home." We had fresh baked scones and coffee waiting for us in the morning and cookies at night, I mean seriously perfect. The room was beautifully minimal in design making it easy to relax. We loved our mini-vacation away from the city. Thank you John, Marvin & Buck!

John is a fantastic host! The cabin was amazing - it was clean, secluded and only a short drive away from Holland. Definitely recommend to others!

My significant other and I made our first ever trip to Michigan for a festival. While we went for the festival, we both agreed that staying at John's made the trip! He greeted us with enjoyable conversation, freshly baked cookies, and provided multiple recommendations during our stay. His place is beautiful! We were greeted by the sunlight each morning, and able to enjoy the outdoor space each day. Each recommendation made was truly a gem and the company was delightful! Would definitely visit again and highly recommend!

Couldn't have been a more perfect weekend getaway! The room was modern/rustic; both clean and inviting......what a bathroom (spa atmosphere!). Just an amazing space in the woods! John was a gracious host and made us feel right at home (Buck and Marvin too!). Great coffee and scones for breakfast as well. We will be back soon to visit!

52 year old working in the software industry and working remotely from my home. I always dreamed of owning a home in a lake effect snow belt and now I have one. I love to cook, cycle, kayak and swim in Lake Michigan. I want people to feel very comfortable while here and enjoy this beautiful new home in the woods. This is Michigan and we love our nightly fires summer and winter. I especially love having my new fireplace on the screen porch - make s'mores and drink wine with no bugs! I built this place with guests in mind. I loved the idea of a modern cabin (some would say barn) and I hope you will too!
