We had a very good stay in Sabrina's apartment in Ghilarza.
Antonio, her father, was welcoming us and showed us around. He didn't speak any English, but did knew some French and we were able to understand each without any problems.
The apartment is huge and big enough for a family of 6. The apartment was very clean, but since it's quite old, it has a bit of an old apartment smell to it. So be aware if you are sensitive to that.
The kitchen is very well equipped and there is a dishwasher, which is very convenient.
When we ran the dishwasher and washing machine at the same time, the the electricity fuses jumped, probably because one of the water heaters turned on as well. Fortunately Antonio has explained us how to reset the fuses. So make sure you only run one of washers at a time time, or switch off both hot water heaters. That worked for us.
The location of the apartment is nothing special (no great views or anything like that), but it is located in a nice and quiet part of the village. The advantage of Ghilarza is that it is located near the crossing of the main highways so you quickly go to any side of the island by car.
We never met Sabrina, but she was very helpful and responsive by e-mail and provided us with tips on things to visit.
Highlights to see in the area are the Nuraghe of Losa, the sacred water well (Parco Archeologico Naturalistico di Santa Cristina), the Romain baths in Fordongianus (where you can bath with hot spring water in the river the whole year round), the Tharros peninsula and the giants in the museum of Cabras. In Putzu Idu there is a very nice long beach.
