Older house on Burnt Coat Harbor, decks surrounding house looking over harbor. Two br's and bath upstairs, old country store attached downstairs w/ bath, queen bed, 2 blow up queens. Stocked pantry, screen porch, 2 bikes, 2 kayaks, 100s of movies and books. Coffee machine, espresso, Keurig, BBQ.

The space

Map and directions available after booking, but in general it is wise to call the Maine State Ferry Service in Bass Harbor, Maine, to make ferry reservations going and returning. Once on the Island, from the ferry terminal, the house is situated on Burnt Coat Harbor, across the Island, first left past the small satellite fire station, down the hill, last house on the left. Parking is on uphill side of the house in front of the boat (which is for sale).

Guest access

The door will be unlocked. The Island is safe so keys are not necessary. Phone numbers for Wesley and for the housekeeper, Lisa Stanley, will be provided after booking. My greatest pleasure is getting to talk to guests when they arrive and making sure all goes well.

Interaction with guests

Call or email anytime. Boat rides to Stonington, and sometimes Isle au Haut, for dinner and shopping leave from Normie Burns' wharf on weekends and some week days. Normie will also sell you lobsters for a low price, lower than the lobster pounds on the harbor.

Other things to note

There are numerous hiking trails, one through Hockamock Head where the Lighthouse is located, beaches (The Fine Sand Beach is a beautiful walk), and a fresh water swimming pond, the Quarry Pond, across the Harbor in Minturn. Sunday mornings there is a community breakfast at the Odd Fellows Hall, and if you are on the Island near the Fourth of July, there will be fireworks over the Harbor and a Pig Roast in Minturn. The Library in Atlantic is modern and filled with books, movies, internet access (a screened porch on the back for after hours internet), art, and a schedule of films, booktalks, and other activities. Down the driveway past the library is the amazing Saturn Press which ships cards and other artworks worldwide. A must visit!

There are very high decks around the house, so it would not be appropriate for small children. Well behaved pets are welcomed, but should not be left to run around the neighborhood. A list of household rules and helpful info will be left on the kitchen counter, and I can be contacted at any time. MAKE FERRY RESERVATIONS FOR COMING AND LEAVING. Wesley's home is incredibly warm, beautiful, serene and peaceful. You can tell how much love he's put into it. The island, the people, Wesley's home was much more then we could even imagine. I can't say enough wonderful things about our stay. Magical Airbnb spot!

He was very responsive to all emails. Provided linens so no need to bring. Great pantry supplies of spices; full range of cooking implements; very user friendly. Only suggestion would be to include a map of the island so as to facilitate finding our way. It's a wonderful house. Love all the books. Great views of the water.

Wesley made our stay memorable. The house is spacious and well kept, but cozy and inviting. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs, and a bed in the old general store portion. The master bedroom has a cute little balcony with a little table for morning coffee. The main deck off the living room is fantastic. Lots of area to sit out and enjoy the sun while reading. There are 2 grills, and a lovely screened in porch with dining table. Wesley has put lots of time into the house, it is very well considered and well appointed. There is a binder with information regarding the house and island waiting for you with all questions answered. The island is charming and quiet. Be prepared to cook all your meals as there are few if no restaurants (we ate at Toms one night and the food is good). The general store carries everything you would need and the seafood is fresh and very reasonable. There is hiking, kayaking (Wesley has 2x you can borrow if your roof rack permits), a great beach, etc. We spent most morning exploring and afternoons relaxing on the deck and cooking. THE FERRY: Make sure you make a reservation if you can or get there early. We arrived very early for the return ferry back to mainland (7:15am for an 8:15am ferry) and couldn't get on until 11:30. Just make sure you consider this. The house, the island, and Wesley really made for a great vacation. No complaints, and would love to return next summer.
