Welcome to Stringybark, a working property in the foothills of Ben Lomond and home to Lake's Edge Tiny House! We welcome you to join us at our picturesque "Flexi Farm" where we run sheep and deer, and are currently establishing a huge vegetable garden and orchard to strive towards a more resilient lifestyle. Stay at our beautifully appointed modern Tiny House with all the comforts and gorgeous views and explore the native grasslands, bush, crystal clear lakes and abundant wildlife.
The space
Imagine a place surrounded by nature and wildlife that feels far away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, yet only requires a 30 minute drive back into civilisation.
Imagine long bushwalks through threatened native grasslands on the property, a picnic in the bush, a refreshing summer- or invigorating winter swim in the lake followed by a blissful hot or cool outdoor shower, relaxed times by the outdoor fire place or reading a good book in a comfy chair on the verandah with lake views. Or how about a tour of the newly established vegetable garden and orchard to learn about growing your own food or an insight into the many species of wildflowers and other flora on the property?
When you're done exploring outside, step into Lake's Edge Tiny House (custom built in 2023) and unwind completely. Whether you feel like cooking up your favourite meal in the well equipped kitchenette, enjoying a cuppa at the breakfast bar with views or dreaming away on the daybed in the loft with even more views - Lake's Edge is built with comfort in mind.
The queen sized bed is situated on the ground floor and boasts luxurious French flax linen bedding by Melbourne based Sheet Society, a superbly temperature regulating Australian made wool doona to keep you comfy and cloud-like memory foam pillows. Keep the blinds open over night and gaze at the stars without even having to leave bed.
The spacious bathroom is equipped with a contemporary composting toilet, a large vanity and a shower with great pressure and instant hot water. Eco friendly hand soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash are all provided, as well as incredibly soft Turkish cotton waffle bath towels and Australian made linen hand towels.
Lake's Edge's kitchenette awaits with a double burner ceramic cook top, a fridge, toaster, kettle and all the utensils, crockery, pots and cutlery you could wish for to whip up a tasty meal for dinner or any other time of the day. The pantry is stocked with complimentary musli, salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil and vinegar. You will also find tea, hot chocolate and ground coffee to make up your favourite hot beverage. We also provide fresh milk (please let us know if you would prefer a milk alternative) for your brew.
There is a stove-top Bialetti Moka Pot to prepare espresso and a Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Frother so you can enjoy delicious flat white style coffees or frothy hot chocolates.
There is no Wifi at the Tiny House and phone reception is patchy. There's also no TV. But what you will find is the most amazing queen sized daybed in the loft for you to kick back with views over the lake and surrounding bush and into the orchard/vegetable garden. There's also a great selection of books and games provided to keep you entertained during your stay. And this is just on the inside.
Outside you'll find a generously sized verandah with comfy chairs, a hammock chair and a dining setting to laze away the day. The lake with jetty and ladder into the water is only a few steps away and it's just a stone's throw to the communal fire pit. If you'd rather stay on the move, enjoy short or long bushwalks on the property where you can admire the native grasslands with numerous wild flowers growing in spring and quintessential open bushland all year round.
Sunsets at Stringybark have got to be among the most beautiful in the world. Enjoy the skies burning in reds, pinks and purples while the sun sets and makes way to the most phenomenal night skies with millions of stars. We're located in a dark sky space and are lucky enough to see the Emu in the Milky Way and even Aurora Australis during the winter months.
As the sun sets at Stringybark the wildlife make an appearance. Wallabies, possums, bandicoots, wombats and even quolls and Tasmanian devils all call Stringybark their home. You're very likely to have possums visit the verandah over night and spot wallabies or pademelons through the windows from bed during twilight.
Lake's Edge Tiny House is conveniently situated at the heart of our beautiful property Stringybark. As you drive along the gravel driveway and past the main residence you'll approach the Tiny House nestled in between our newly built working vegetable garden/orchard, our large shed and best of all: the crystal clear lake. Park your car in the dedicated parking spot next to the Tiny House and make yourself at home!
Because of the central location of Lake's Edge you'll often see us while we're out and about working on the property. We will always respect your privacy, however since we live and work on the property you can expect your stay to be a bit like a farm stay. Just on a Flexi Farm, because we're not organised enough to call it an actual farm :)
Through the summer months we occasionally host campers on two separate camp sites (one is about 2 minutes walk from the Tiny House, the other about 10 minutes). They may be using the communal fire place and lake for swims, too.
We're striving towards a more sustainable and resilient lifestyle for our family, which is why we try to source as much food (vegetables, eggs and meat) from the property as possible and try and generate a small income by hosting guests. Stringybark is also a Land For Wildlife property, which means we manage the land in a natural way to create a sanctuary for local flora and fauna. We'd be delighted to show you around our property and explain what we're doing at Stringybark. We love to share this slice of paradise with our guests.
The breakfast provided consists of complimentary musli, milk, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
To further enhance your stay, please ask us about our DIY waffle hamper (containing ready made waffle batter, home-made jam, maple syrup, butter and a waffle iron for you to bake your own waffles) or freshly baked homemade sourdough bread. All at an additional cost and subject to availability.

There’s a guest carpark right next to the Tiny House.
Access is via a ramp to the verandah and then without any steps into the Tiny House.
The bed is located on the ground floor.
The day bed is located up in the loft via a steep staircase. Not everyone may feel comfortable with this, so please do not go up there if you aren't surefooted or are afraid of heights.
Please ask us about a tour of the vegetable garden/orchard or the native grasslands and bush to learn about the species that call Stringybark home and our efforts to protect them.
