This cozy home is in the Ravenna neighborhood near the University of Washington with easy transportation downtown. A private room with twin beds, vanity and bureau are next to a full bath. Need two rooms? See "Sunny in Seattle" for the second room.
Share a living and dining room with your hosts, Sharon and Jim, two English professors. Four steps up to the front door, seven steps up to the shared area, parking on the street. We have two cats but they don't go in the bedrooms. Ravenna is a charming neighborhood north of the University of Washington with easy access to the bus, Interstate 5 and downtown.
We have a backyard and a front deck for your relaxation. Our neighborhood is good for walking and close to 65th Street NE, which has restaurants, a yoga studio, the Herbalist, and coffee shops. We are also walking distance from the public library, post office, and grocery stores. Buses to the UW are on our corner, and we are close to the Burke Gilman trail for walking and biking.
Interaction with guests
Jim and Sharon are English professors--Jim is retired and Sharon is still teaching. We are in and out and will be more than happy to help you get oriented to Seattle. We have books, maps, and lots of information about how to get where you're going, or suggestions on great things to do in this area. Please Note: We do not provide office space other than what you can see in the photos of the bedrooms. If you need to work at home all day or set up electronics or a writing space, you should look for accommodation that provides office space. We've learned from experience that we are unable to support guests who wish to stay in the house all day and work as if they were at an office. This is a space for tourists who want to see the city, people here for special events, interns who go to work, or students who have offices elsewhere or use the facilities at the university. There are many nearby libraries, Starbucks, and other public places that Seattleites use as daytime offices--we're glad to direct you to those spaces.
Other things to note
We provide a simple breakfast--coffee, tea, toast, yogurt, cereal, milk, fruit. Feel free to let us know if you have special needs we can accommodate. Sorry but no smoking in our house, though you can smoke in the yard. We have no pets and--sorry--don't have accommodation for pets.
1. Street parking only... but you can unload in our driveway if it is unoccupied when you arrive, then re-park on the street.
2. No smoking in the house--OK to smoke in the yard.
3. Please remember to keep the common areas clean. Seattle is a compost and recycling town--bins are labeled.
5.Please no additional guests or gatherings at the house--we rent two rooms so there isn't extra space.
6. No pets, sorry.
7. Quiet time between 10 pm and 8am.
8. If you arriving after 9 pm. enter quietly - call Sharon if you have to arrive after 10.
If there are any concerns or problems, let us know. We want you to enjoy your stay :)
My husband, Jim, and I are college professors--he's retired and I teach at Seattle University. Our fields are American literature and creative writing. Jim is a letter press printer, I'm a poet, and we love opera, theater, and travel. We have used AIRBNB in the US and overseas, and now offer stays in our home in Seattle, Washington, USA.
