Welcome to Ukiyo - @littleukiyo
Tucked away in the hills of the Derwent Valley, we invite you to truly disconnect and reconnect - with nature, stillness and yourself.

1 hour from Hobart, our peaceful off-grid retreat offers a unique blend of comfort and wilderness. Wake to birdsong, take in panoramic views and enjoy the sense of total escape.

Whether you're curling up with a book, wandering the trails, or exploring Tasmania’s natural beauty, Ukiyo offers the perfect reset.

The space
An unforgettable off-grid escape hidden in the heart of Tasmania’s Derwent Valley.

Step into this hand-crafted timber cabin and be greeted by soaring ceilings, natural textures, and sweeping treetop views across the valley. This is a space designed for stillness, reflection, and reconnection - with nature and with yourself.

Thoughtfully created with a low-tox, eco-conscious approach, the cabin features natural fibres, simple materials, and a mindful absence of harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances wherever possible.

The Space
• A cozy living area with a wood fire - perfect for curling up or watching mist roll through the hills
• Loft-style bedroom with panoramic views and a double bed that might just be your front-row seat to the Aurora Australis on a clear night
• Minimalist kitchenette with essentials: gas stove (single burner), tea & coffee, and pantry basics
• Bathroom with ¾-size bath and overhead shower
• Eco-conscious compost toilet inside + flushing toilet in a private outhouse (approx. 50m walk from the cabin)

The Experience
• 50 private acres of dense forest to explore
• Direct trail access to Mt Dromedary and Platform Peak
• Public hikers are diverted before the gate for your privacy
• Just steps away: a serene natural spring surrounded by moss, ferns, and fungi - a perfect place for meditation or quiet moments

Location Highlights
• 15 mins to New Norfolk’s cafés, antique stores & food options
• 1 hour from Hobart.

Whether you’re after mountain hikes, stargazing, or deep rest in a peaceful forest sanctuary, Ukiyo offers a one-of-a-kind Tasmanian escape.

Guest access
🌿 Reaching our retreat is part of the experience. You’ll travel down a quiet country road, well-maintained but mostly single-lane shared respectfully with local neighbours. Take it slow and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Your final approach is through native bushland and up a rocky private driveway. It’s wonderfully wild, but is slick in some parts especially in wet weather and during winter. For this reason, we recommend bringing an AWD or 4WD vehicle. Standard 2WDs and low-clearance cars would struggle on the terrain.

Beyond our property, this advice holds true for much of Tasmania. Many of the island’s most scenic routes, remote destinations, and national parks are best accessed with a vehicle that can handle varied terrain and changing conditions - so an AWD or 4WD will make your adventure smoother and more enjoyable.

Other things to note
We are totally off grid.

This means limited power, especially on days where we've had limited sunshine, and unfortunately our power system is unable to accomodate high wattage appliances such as hair dryers, irons, etc.

The water to the cabin is filtered natural spring water from the block.

Toilet Talk.
Inside the cabin is a self contained, compost toilet, Plus we have an outhouse style flushing toilet located separate to the cabin, around 50 metres walk down the driveway (includes a few rock steps).

Our block, including areas around the cabin includes various types of terrain, steep rocky hills, loose gravel, mud, rock steps, flowing water, and slippery surfaces. Please use caution while exploring the property.

The bedroom is an open loft style with steep ladder type stairs to access.

For reasons listed above, unfortunately our property is not suitable for children or guests who may experience mobility restrictions.

The driveway in is an old (unmaintained) forestry track and is not suitable for low clearance vehicles.

Telstra and Optus service available.

My work: Mum to a wild 3yo
Just a girl living out her dreams in the forest with my tiny, wild family. we love the slowness of life here in Tasmania and feel grateful to share a little piece of it with guests. I hope you feel the same sense of calm, connection, and simplicity that we get to enjoy every day.
