About this listing

Unwind on a pretty free range pig farm on the bush. Our little wagon is beautifully lined with original timber boards and insulated with a foot of horse hair. It exudes peace and tranquility. Your outlook is the redgum forest that surrounds our farm through a picture window. Lose yourself, unwind.

The space

The wagon is a raw and unadulterated piece of history, originally used to cart cheese and meat by rail. The thick insulated walls sound proof your space and draw you back to the simple things in life and the beauty of the natural surrounding environment. Your bed is fitted with fine linen and big bath sheets and handmade body products are provided to use. Use this space to totally relax and unwind. Barham is just a three hour drive from Melbourne and home to a range of top quality artisan producers as well as awesome natural beauty.

Guest access

Guests will have private access to the whole wagon and the adjoining bathroom. If more guests need to be accommodated there is another small studio that can accommodate another two people. Our guests are welcome to walk across the farm and into the forest. There is beautiful light in the early morning and evening, and deers and kangaroos and their joeys graze on the lawn and around the farm. We have lots of bird life including emus and small wrens and honeyeaters.

Interaction with guests

We are here most of the time and if you need anything you are welcome to come knocking on our door, but we will leave you in peace otherwise. We do provide a breakfast hamper included in your stay and can put together lunch hampers loaded with locally sourced produce, wine and goods for an added cost.

Other things to note

Our internet and phone reception is not very good, so we suggest switching off while you are here and letting the surroundings draw you in for a real country experience.
We provide a breakfast hamper loaded with locally grown produce including our own pork smallgoods and handmade bread. Other locally sourced produce is available to purchase for you to take home.
We can put together lunch hampers for $25pp.
We are an on-farm butcher, so we have a broad range of grass fed beef, lamb and free range pork. Ask us about cuts to put on the BBQ for dinner or goods to take home!

We have small children and are running a busy on-farm business with on onsite farmstead butchery and lots of free range pigs. We kindly ask our guests to please respect our work and family spaces. We also run everything on rainwater so quick showers are a must in our dry climate. There is no smoking on the farm, farm walks are welcome but we ask you to check with us first before you head off. The on-farm butchery is operational so we ask that guests do not enter the building for food safety protocol.

The accomodation is a converted wooden freight carriage, which is surprisingly very cosy in the middle of winter. Expect a short (3m) dash through the cold air to get to the bathroom. The bacon (supplied with the cabin) is absolutely delicious. You can get up close and personal with the pigs and watch the little ones gambolling about the paddock. Barham is a quiet town but it is very easy to make day trips to Deniliquin and Echuca. The town is on the banks of the Murry, and there are fanatastic views and walking trails in the area.

Lauren was a wonderful host, the dog, chooks, guinea fowls, and cat additional company, the surrounding farm and forest spectacularly beautiful. Very simple but warm wooden freight train carriage that has the most wonderful wood floors, walls and picture windows out to the eucalypts and the stars. Breakfast to cook on the BBQ on the deck in the morning, is provided with fresh eggs, and bacon from the very happy pigs nurtured on the farm. Great walking and the river close by. A treasure.

What an awesome rustic little place. The hosts plus all the animals where very welcoming. We stayed during an extreme cold spell & the little wagon stayed beautiful & warm. You do have to brave the cold to get to the bathroom however but once there the shower is awesome. Thanks for a lovely time Lauren we will certainly be back.

The Farm Wagon was great. Cozy on a very cold night. Campfire, BBQ and delicious pork were all great touches. Do recommend.

A wonderful cosy stay. Loved wandering down to see the pigs and escaping into the surrounding bush. The night stars are something to behold. Thoroughly enjoyable evening around a camp fire eating the most delicious pork chops and fennel sausages, snuggling with the friendly farm dog and cat. Thanks for the wonderful experience Lauren.

Quite basic and could do with a spring clean as was dusty. Toilet and shower in a nearby separate building with no heater - we thankfully threw a fan heater in our car which we used in the bathroom. The kitchen is a mix of a BBQ, a bench in an adjoining room and an outdoor sink so don't expect to be able to do much in the way of a meal. The bacon and stuff for breakfast is amazing but we had to ask for eggs. From previous reviews, photos and the price I was expecting a bit more of the experience. The farm was lovely though, our daughter loved the pigs, dog, cat and chickens. Fantastic area to explore and the local pub meal at the Barham Hotel was amazing.

I manage and run Bundarra Berkshires, a free range pig farm with my husband Lachy, our two young girls and baby boy. I love to cook, I love animals, I'm a local food advocate and just love living in the country.
