Unique glamping experience on a pretty free range pig farm on the bush. Our little wagon is beautifully lined with original timber boards and insulated with a foot of horse hair. It exudes peace and tranquility. Your outlook is the redgum forest that surrounds our farm through a picture window. Lose yourself, unwind.
The wagon is a raw and unadulterated piece of history, originally used to cart cheese and meat by rail. The thick insulated walls sound proof your space and draw you back to the simple things in life and the beauty of the natural surrounding environment. Your bed is fitted with fine linen and big bath sheets and handmade body products are provided to use. Use this space to totally relax and unwind. Barham is just a three hour drive from Melbourne and home to a range of top quality artisan producers as well as awesome natural beauty. The cooking facilities are basic but adequate to cook breakfast and basic meals on the BBQ. There is a small microwave available in the work kitchen nearby, a fridge where you will find your breakfast provisions, a toaster and a kettle. The bathroom is next door and although unheated has very hot water. These are basic additions to the wagon which add to the experience of staying on a farm next to the bush. Suitable for kids and babies, and our pets are super friendly. The farm is easily accessible and we encourage our guests to wander on a walk to see how our free range pigs live.
Guests will have private access to the whole wagon and the adjoining bathroom. The bathroom facilities are shared in business hours and are basic and unheated- toilet, shower and sink and are located in the shed right next to the wagon so its a quick dash in winter- but the water is really hot! The heater in the wagon is really warm. If more guests need to be accommodated there is another small studio that can accommodate another two people. Our guests are welcome to walk across the farm and into the forest. There is beautiful light in the early morning and evening, and deers and kangaroos and their joeys graze on the lawn and around the farm. We have lots of bird life including emus and small wrens and honeyeaters.
Interaction with guests
We are here most of the time and if you need anything you are welcome to come knocking on our door, but we will leave you in peace otherwise. We do provide a breakfast hamper included in your stay and can put together lunch hampers loaded with locally sourced produce, wine and goods for an added cost. During weekdays from 9-5 the butchery is in operation and our staff will be around. They are friendly and don't bite.
Other things to note
Our internet and phone reception is not very good, so we suggest switching off while you are here and letting the surroundings draw you in for a real country experience.
We provide a breakfast hamper loaded with locally grown produce including our own pork smallgoods which may be bacon, pancetta or sausages and locally made bread, local milk, avocados when they are in season and free range eggs all from Barham.
We can put together lunch hampers for $25pp.
We are an on-farm butchery, so we have a broad range free range pork cuts and products available. Ask us about cuts to put on the BBQ for dinner or goods to take home or ask our butcher Gary if he's in.
We have small children and are running a busy on-farm business with on onsite farmstead butchery and lots of free range pigs. We kindly ask our guests to please respect our work and family spaces. We also run everything on rainwater so quick showers are a must in our dry climate. There is no smoking on the farm, farm walks are welcome but we ask you to check with us first before you head off. The on-farm butchery is operational so we ask that guests do not enter the building for food safety protocol.
